Sample Questions with Approach Analysis for NIFT Situation Test
Here, we have listed some important questions that you should consider practising for the NIFT Situation test, and that will offer you guidance on how to attempt the various questions.
Question 1: Create a tool that helps a bus conductor do his job better.
A product-based question.
- Material: Thick thermocol 10” x 10”, Cardboard 8” x8”, Glaze paper 1 sheet, cotton, straw pipe, ice cream sticks 5, rubber sheet 10” x 10”, and coloured clay.
- Analysis: Identify what jobs a conductor of a bus has to perform and hence his needs, such as storing tickets, ticket cost computing, cash storing & transaction, some first aid, a mobile with hands-free, a GPS fit out, hotlines for nearest police, toll plaza and ambulance service.
- Concept & Execution: We need a calculator panel, a ticket roll dispenser, a cash stack with segmentation for different cash denominations, coin pouch segment with zipper, and a small first aid kit space, a mobile clip-on, and a panel with direct buttons that connect his mobile to all hotlines & GPS. All of it has to be carried by him on his person while keeping his hands free for access to various segments. Also, the need is to make the look of the product creative too, so we need to infuse a creative concept too, like a logo of the bus service that he is working for. Now draw the product on paper, and then decide which material would be suitable for which component and create the product time-bound.
Question 2: Design a workplace of either an artist or a doctor’s clinic.
The question is based on space design.
- Material: Thin thermocol 12” x 12”, Cardboard 10” x 10”, Glaze paper 1 sheet, Handmade sheet 1, straw pipes 8, aluminium foil 10”, Aluminium wire thin 1m, plastic loofah 1 and coloured clay.
- Analysis: Make a choice, say artist’s work place. The type of artist whether a painter or sculptor or ceramic/ pottery artist, accordingly decide his work tools. If your artist is a painter then, he would have a studio, where he has hoards of easels, stacks of brushes, paints, gateway sheets, specific light sources, inspiration board, music system, a couch to relax upon.
- Concept & Execution: choose a theme and draw the interior layout. Assuming that he paints abstracts, then let his studio have some abstract forms for furniture & fixtures and wall textures, create all the necessary tools, and lay them out as per your design. First, create components using appropriate material choice, and here in space design, you need to be careful of their relative proportions too, then lay them out in the interior of the space created by you.
Question 3: Create a model that depicts your expression on corruption.
- Material: Block of thermocol 4” x 4”x 4”, Cardboard 8” x8”, Kite paper 1 sheet, golden paper 1, straw pipes 6, embroidery threads 4 hanks, bubble wrap sheet 10” x 10” and buttons 10.
- Analysis: Brainstorm as to how you perceive corruption, in terms of personification or symbolic representation, corruption in which area do you want to highlight. Eg. It could be a general interpretation of how deeply rooted corruption is today in our society, or specific, like corruption in the health sector or politics.
- Concept & Execution: Accordingly, draw your interpretation in to a visual, eg. A tree that has a dragon head and clawed roots to symbolise corruption or any other way that you creative mind may decide and convert it into a 3D model and give a write-up explaining your concept. Try to keep the model consolidated into a single piece rather than spreading it into small and too many components across an area.

There is no fixed number of mock tests one should take before the NIFT Entrance Exam. A candidate should take at least one mock test daily for the NIFT Entrance Preparation. 10-15 mock tests will really help in preparing for the exam.
