TNEA 2026 Application Form: The Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu, will start the TNEA registration 2026 in May 2026, tentatively. 10+2 passed/appearing candidates can apply for TNEA 2026 counselling. Admission will be based on marks obtained by the candidates in the relevant subjects, namely, Maths, Physics and Chemistry, which will be reduced to 200 (Maths – 100, Physics – 50 and Chemistry – 50).

Candidates who successfully register for TNEA 2025 are allotted a random number, which is then sent to the candidates through SMS. Candidates can also view their TNEA random numbers under their respective logins using their registered email ID and password. The random number is used for tie-breaking for TNEA rank list generation when all other tie-breaking criteria are exhausted.

Q:   What are the requirements to apply for TNEA?
A: 

To apply for TNEA 2026, candidates have to meet the below requirements: Candidates must have passed the 10+2 exam with a minimum of 45% marks (40% for reserved category candidates). They should have passed the 10+2 exam from Tamil Nadu board or any equivalent board. They must have cleared any one of the HSC (Vocational Subject) with one of the Engineering related subjects namely Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry. Apart from that, they following requirements must be also met: Tamil Nadu candidates who have passed their Class VIII to Class XII standard in Tamil Nadu. Children of Central Government Employees, irrespective of their nativity, provided their parents or guardians (only if both parents are not alive) have been serving in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past five years at the time of TNEA application form submission. Sons/daughters of All India Service Tamil Nadu cadre officers. Children of employees in the Public Sector or Government recognised institutions who at the time of TNEA 2026 application form submission had been working in their organisations for the past five years are also eligible to apply, irrespective of their domicile. Q:   What is the last date to register for TNEA counselling?
A: 

The Directorate of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu will release the TNEA 2026 counselling process dates for registration, assignment of random numbers, Certificate verifications, rank list publication, and finally, the counselling. The counselling rounds will include steps like Choice Filling, Allotment, Confirmation of Allotment, and Reporting to the College/TFC and payment of fees depending upon their confirmation.

BE/B.Tech admission in Tamil Nadu is done based on the online counselling process called TNEA. There is no state-level entrance exam for admission in Tamil Nadu. Candidates have to register and appear for the online Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions TNEA counselling held every year. 10+2 passed/appearing candidates can apply for TNEA counselling. Admission will be based on marks obtained by the candidates in the relevant subjects, namely, Maths Physics and Chemistry which will be reduced to 200 (Maths 100, Physics 50 and Chemistry 50).

Eligibility to Apply for TNEA Counselling 2026

The TNEA counselling eligibility criteria 2026 are given below.

  • Nationality: Only Indian nationals can apply for TNEA counselling 2026.
  • Nativity: Candidates of the following nativity can apply for TNEA counselling 2026:
Tamil Native Candidates

Tamil Nadu candidates who have passed VIII, IX, X, XI and XII standards from schools situated in Tamil Nadu are eligible to apply. They need not produce a Nativity Certificate for verification.

Tamil Nadu native candidates who have passed any of the VIII, IX, X, XI and XII Std. or their equivalent examination from schools situated outside Tamil Nadu can also apply. They should produce an Original Nativity Certificate only in electronic form/digitally signed e-Certificate.

Sons and daughters of All India Service Tamil Nadu cadre officers are eligible to apply. A Self-declaration from the parent in this regard is to be produced.

Non-Tamil Candidates Children of Central Government Employees may also apply for admission, irrespective of their native, provided their parents or guardians (only if both parents are not alive) have been serving in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past FIVE YEARS at the time of submission of application. This should be supported by producing a certificate from the employer of the parent or guardian, to that effect.
Children of employees in the Public Sector or Government recognised Institutions who at the time of submission of application for admission employed in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past five years may also apply irrespective of their domicile. A certificate from the employer stating that the person is a Permanent Employee of the Firm or Institution concerned with evidence like Income Tax return, PF Slips, etc. and has been working in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past FIVE YEARS has to be produced.
Other State candidates who have studied VIII, IX, X, XI and XII Std. in Tamil Nadu are eligible to apply. They need not produce a Nativity Certificate.
Srilankan Tamil Refugee

Candidates who are Srilankan Tamil refugees studying in Tamil Nadu will be considered under open competition. They have to produce the following certificates:

  • Identification certificate from the Head Quarters Tahsildar.
  • Those who have not registered in the refugee camp should produce their original passport, visa and letter registered with the Police Station
Overseas Citizen of India Candidates

Candidates of Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders/Persons of Indian Origin(PIO) cardholders and Native of Tamil Nadu are permitted to participate in the Tamilnadu Engineering Counselling under the “Open Category”. This will not apply to the candidates of overseas citizen of India (OCI) cardholders/Persons of Indian Origin(PIO) cardholders who are born in a foreign country after 04.03.2021.

Qualifying Examinations and Eligibility: A pass in the HSC (Academic: both +1 and +2) or its equivalent with a minimum average percentage is given below:

  • General Category - 45%
  • Backward Class including Backward Class Muslim - 40%
  • MBC & DNC - 40%
  • SC/SCA/ST - 40%

OR

Q:   What is a native place in the TNEA application? Does it mean our birth place?
A: 
In the TNEA application, the term "native place" refers to the place where the candidate or candidate's parents have been residing for the past five years. It is not related to the candidate's place of birth. The purpose of collecting this information is to determine the category (I. e. , local or non-local) to which the candidate belongs for the purpose of admission.
Q:   I have studied till 8th in Andhra and 9th,10th,11th,12th standards in Tamil Nadu. So will they consider me as local or not for TNEA?
A: 
TNEA (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions) is conducted by Anna University, Chennai for admission to various engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu. To be considered as a "local candidate" for TNEA you must satisfy certain eligibility criteria set by Anna University. As per the TNEA eligibility criteria, a candidate can be considered as a local candidate if he/she meets any of the following criteria: Candidates who are Native of Tamil Nadu (i.e. who have studied in Tamil Nadu) or who have completed their qualifying examination from an institution located in Tamil Nadu. Children of Central Government Employees, who have been serving in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past five years at the time of submission of application, and whose parents' native is not Tamil Nadu. Children of employees in Public Sector or Government recognised institutions who at the time of submission of application for admission employed in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past five years. Based on the above eligibility criteria, if you have completed your 10th, 11th, and 12th standards in Tamil Nadu, then you can be considered as a local candidate for TNEA. However, if you do not meet any of the eligibility criteria mentioned above, you may not be considered as a local candidate for TNEA.

Q:   What is the TNEA application fee?

The application fee for TNEA is INR 500 for the general candidates and INR 250 for SC /SCA /ST category belonging to Tamil Nadu. The application fee can be paid using payment modes like Credit card/ Debit card/ Net banking/ Demand Draft. The application process includes the below steps:

  1. Registration: Provide the details asked and register for counselling
  2. Login: Candidates who register successfully are issued login details that include a username and password
  3. Fill out the online application form: Candidates have to complete the online application form which has 7 parts. One part of them is the application fee payment.

Q:   Can a Diploma holder apply for TNEA?
A: 

Yes, a Diploma holder candidate can apply for the TNEA examination. However, they have to complete their three years of engineering Diploma after class 12th with 50% aggregate score to be eligible to do so. Also, it is mandatory for the candidate to have completed the 12th grade before appearing in the examination.

Q:   I am from Bihar, Am I eligible for TNEA?
A: 

Domicile residents of Tamil Nadu should have Qualified 8th,9th,10th, and 10+2th standard in the state. If the domicile Residents have completed above standard from Outside the state, then they will also be eligible provided They bring their copy of Navity Certificate. Children of government employees whose parents have been serving the state for the past 5 years from the Day of application will also be eligible even if they are not domicile residents. The children of All India Service Tamil Nadu cadre officers will also be termed eligible for Admission.

How to Fill TNEA 2026 Application Form

Check below the steps to apply for TNEA 2026:

The detailed application procedure has been explained below:

Step 1 - TNEA 2026 registration

On the registration page, candidates have to enter their name, email ID, password generation, nationality, nativity, religion, community, whether they have studied from 8th to 12th standard in Tamil Nadu or not, date of birth, mobile number, gender, qualifying number, the month of passing, year of passing.

An OTP will be sent to the candidate’s registered mobile number. After submitting the OTP and previewing the details, candidates have to click on the ‘register’ button. After registration, candidates will be sent their user ID in their registered mobile number.

 Note:

  • The name should be entered in the class 10th /12th mark sheet
  • Candidates have to enter his/her e-mail address for 'User ID'. If the candidate does not have an e-mail address, then an e-mail address has to be created and enter the same for the user ID. In case, they do not have an email and if not in a position to create one immediately, use their parents' email. This e-mail address shall be treated as the candidate’s login user ID and registered e-mail address to which all communications are sent
  • The mobile number entered here will be treated as your registered mobile number
  • The password should contain a minimum of 8 characters with which at least one capital, one numerical and one special character
  • Details entered here cannot be modified later, hence enter the details correctly before confirming
  • Candidates have to remember their User ID (e-mail address) and password because this will be used during the process of application, payment, choice entry and allotment

Step 2 - Login

After receiving the user id and password, candidates have to login using their ID and password to enter details in the application form.

Step 3 - Fill out the online application form

In the online application form candidates have to enter the following details:

  1. Personal details
  2. Special reservation information
  3. Scholarship information
  4. School of Study Information
  5. Academic Information

Step 4 - Preview/submit an application

The preview of the filled application form will be displayed and after checking for any mistakes, the candidates will have to submit it.

Step 5 - TNEA application fee payment

In this step, candidates have to pay the application fees through online mode only. The payment can be made through debit/net banking/credit card.

Step 6 - Printout of TNEA 2026 application form

After submitting academic details, candidates have to take a printout of the application form for further admission process. The printout must be kept safe until the admission process is over.

Q:   How do I retrieve my TNEA counselling portal password if I forget the same?
A: 

In TNEA counselling, candidates have to login to their counselling portal using their User ID and password. Theregistered mail id of the candidates is the User Id.

In case the candidates have forgotten their password, they can follow the steps given below to retrieve the same:

  • Click “Forgot password” present in the TNEA counselling login page.
  • By entering the correct email address, an email containing the link and instructions for resetting the password will be sent.
  • candidates can use the link to reset their password.
  • After the password is changed, kindly write the new password somewhere to remember it.
Q:   Will I be able to correct the mistakes in TNEA application form at the time of counselling?
A: 

Candidates can edit the TNEA 2026 application form until the last date of registration. The candidate has to fill up the details in the application form and they can give their preference of TFC for online Certificates Verification. The entered details can be viewed using the login information. The applicant can edit his/her information if necessary. Verify the entries made and if all the details are found correct then submit the online application on or before the last date. Yes. The candidayes must follow the following specifications while uploading certificates in TNEA application form

  • The certificates of the candidates can be in either PDF or Image format (JPG/JPE/JPEG/PNG) and the size of the certificates should be within the range of 150 KB and 1 MB.

TNEA Random Number 2026 for Registered Candidates

To resolve ties in the TNEA merit list when other criteria are inconclusive, each applicant will be assigned a unique 10-digit random number known as the TNEA random number. If a tie persists, the candidate with the higher random number will be given priority. TNEA 2026 Random Number will be out in June 2026. Registered candidates have to sign in by entering login Id/email Id and password to view their unique random number allotted by the authority. TNEA 2026 Document Verification Process at the TFCs

The uploaded certificates are subjected to verification at the TFCs selected by the candidates in the online application form. The certificate uploading and verification procedure is intimated after the completion of the registration process.

While verifying the documents uploaded during TNEA 2026 registration, candidates have to follow the following steps:

  1. If the status shown is Incomplete, candidates have to scan all the required certificates as a single PDF file and upload it.
  2. After uploading they must freeze the upload and logout.
  3. If the status shown is 'upload not completed and the upload status is not started', scan all the certificates as a single PDF file and upload.
  4. After uploading freeze the upload and logout.
  5. If the status shown is 'In Progress', it indicates that certificate verification is under process.
  6. If the status shown is 'Completed successfully', then it indicates that Certificate verification is completed successfully for that Application.

Only those candidates whose certificates are verified successfully are included in the TNEA rank list and become eligible to participate in the TNEA counselling process.
