Logical & Abstract Reasoning

Focus Category

Description & Skill Requirement

Key Topics & Question Types

Problem-Solving Speed

Measures the ability to identify patterns and sequences rapidly. Tests mental agility and the capacity to process visual or coded data under time pressure.

  • Number and Letter Series completion
  • Pattern recognition (Visual/Non-verbal)
  • Coding-Decoding
  • Analogy and Classification

Fact-Based Logic

Evaluates the ability to derive objective conclusions. Candidates must analyse information provided in a passage and apply logic without making external assumptions.

  • Logical situations based on passages
  • Statement and Conclusions
  • Syllogisms
  • Logical Deductions

Analytical Reasoning

Tests the capability to organise complex data sets into logical structures to solve multi-layered problems.

  • Seating Arrangements (Circular, Linear)
  • Blood Relations
  • Direction Sense Test
  • Ranking and Ordering

Weightage: 30 Questions | 60 Marks.

Time Management: Given the 90-minute composite limit for the whole exam, experts suggest spending roughly 25–30 minutes on this section.

English Comprehension & Verbal Ability

This section tests general language proficiency and the ability to interpret written information.

  • Grammar & Sentence Correction: Focus on subject-verb agreement, tenses, articles, and identifying errors in sentence structure.
  • Vocabulary: Significant focus on Synonyms, Antonyms, and the usage of common Words & Phrases.
  • Reading Comprehension: Ability to summarise and answer questions based on short passages.
  • Verbal Ability: Includes jumbled paragraphs (sentence reordering) and idioms.

Computer Concepts & Architecture

Category Key Topics & Focus Areas
Computer Basics & CPU Organization of a computer, structure of instructions in the Central Processing Unit (CPU), Input/Output (I/O) devices, computer memory, memory organization, and back-up devices.
Data Representation Representation of characters, integers, and fractions. Proficiency in Binary and Hexadecimal representations is required.
Binary Arithmetic Binary addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Specific focus on Signed arithmetic, Two’s Complement arithmetic, and normalized Floating-point representation.
Computer Architecture Basics of Digital Logic, block structure of computers, communication protocols between processors and I/O devices, and the role of Interrupts.
Boolean Algebra Truth tables, Venn diagrams, and the application of Boolean logic to digital circuits.
Languages & Programming High-level language fundamentals, Data and File structures, and a heavy emphasis on C Programming (including advanced programming concepts).
Operating Systems Fundamentals and basics of Operating System (OS) functions and architecture.

Weightage: 20 Questions (40 Marks)

Focus Areas: Candidates should prioritise Binary Arithmetic (especially Two's Complement) and C Programming, as these often require more calculation and logic.

How to Solve 100 Questions in 90 Minutes

With only 54 seconds per question, you cannot afford to "get stuck."

  • The "Two-Pass" Strategy: Go through the entire paper once, answer all the easy questions first to lock in quick points. Go back and spend your remaining time on the harder ones you skipped
  • No Negative Marking: Unlike other exams, there is no penalty for wrong answers. Never leave a question blank. If you have 2 minutes left and 10 questions remaining, guess them all.
  • Focus on Mental Math: Since calculators are not allowed, practice mental math for the Arithmetic and Binary sections to save precious seconds.

Suggested Sectional Time Allocation to Solve MAH MCA CET 2026 Question Paper

To maximise your 200-mark potential, we suggest distributing your 90 minutes based on the complexity of the subjects. Below plan can be helpful-

Section

No. of Questions

Suggested Time

Strategy

Mathematics & Statistics

30

35-40 Minutes

Requires the most calculation. Solve Algebra/Arithmetic first; save long Probability proofs for last.

Logical Reasoning

30

25-30 Minutes

Fast-paced. If a puzzle (for example, seating arrangement) isn't clicking after 1 minute, move on.

Computer Concepts

20

10-12 Minutes

Mostly "you know it or you don't." Focus on Binary conversions and C syntax.

English Comprehension

20

10-12 Minutes

Solve grammar and vocabulary quickly so that you can dedicate more time to the Math section.

Final Review/Guessing

2-5 Minutes

Ensure that no bubbles remain empty, and review any "Marked for Review" questions.
