CLAT 2019 was conducted in offline mode from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at 40 cities across India. Till 2018, CLAT was conducted by National Law Universities (NLUs) on a rotational basis. However, this year the law entrance exam was conducted by NLU Odisha under the supervision of a permanent body formed by NLUs, the CLAT Consortium. About 60,000 candidates appeared for CLAT exam this year.

Through CLAT 2019, candidates can secure admission in undergraduate as well as postgraduate programmes offered colleges accepting CLAT scores. CLAT exam pattern for UG courses is such that candidates need to attempt 200 multiple choice questions in two hours durations. Questions in the exam come from subjects such as English including Comprehension, General Knowledge and Current Affairs, Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability), Legal Aptitude, and Logical Reasoning. Check complete CLAT 2019 exam pattern.

Shiksha reported live from Harcourt Butler Senior Secondary School, New Delhi where about 800 students appeared for the exam for UG course admissions. Majority of the students that we spoke to shared that the paper was easy. Some even went on to say that CLAT 2019 was the easiest paper of all years. Check complete CLAT student reaction below:

Section-Wise CLAT 2019 Difficulty Level

Shikha from Kanha Makhan Public School, Vrindavan said, “I took CLAT for the second time this year and I found the paper easy. If I compare different sections of the exam, GK was very easy, and questions from Current Affairs were of recent highlighted events. Legal Aptitude section was also very easy but I found little difficulty in Mathematics as the subject is not my forte. Since it was a very easy paper, I expect that CLAT cutoff would go higher than 130 or 140 marks.”

As per Vaibhav who came all the way from Bihar to take the CLAT 2019 exam, “My paper went well. I found Logical Reasoning to be the easiest of all the sections. English and Maths were also easy this year. The expected cutoff, I believe would be over 130 marks.” Another candidate, Rohan from MCL Saraswati Bal Mandir, Hari Nagar, New Delhi, said, “It was my first attempt at CLAT exam. I had taken many mock tests to prepare well for the exam. I had also taken coaching for this paper. Overall, CLAT 2019 was an easy paper. This year, Legal Aptitude section was easier as compared to last year. GK was also easy. It was not a lengthy paper but I was little slow in attempting the questions.”

Another candidate, Rucha shared, My CLAT 2019 paper went fine. All the sections in the exam were easy. However, I found Legal Aptitude section little tricky and tough.” Also, Vanshika from Hindu Vidya Peeth shared, “Of all the sections, I found Logical Reasoning to be the easiest followed by English, Legal Aptitude and Maths sections. I found Legal Aptitude questions a bit lengthy. Also, I could not answer all questions in Maths section of the exam.”

Tushar from Hansraj Model School was of the view that CLAT 2019 was of moderate difficulty level. He said, “I found GK tough, Logical Reasoning and Legal Aptitude easy and Maths of moderate difficulty level. However, my paper went good.”

CLAT 2019 Exam Pattern as Compared to Past Year’s Paper

Most of the students that we spoke to shared that CLAT 2019 was easier as compared to previous years' papers. According to Prateek Jain from Haryana, “Compared to last year’s paper, the CLAT 2019 paper was very easy. I think that the exam cutoff will be very high – approximately 150 marks.” Prateek, however, felt, “This year there were many changes in CLAT pattern. The biggest change was that all the questions in Legal Aptitude section were based on Reasoning.”

Another candidate who appeared for CLAT for the second time and is a class 12th drop out shared, “This year CLAT was easier as compared to last year’s paper. Legal principle questions in the CLAT 2019 exam were very short. I think that CLAT question paper 2019 was the easiest of all times and so the cutoff will go extremely high – 150 marks above.”

CLAT 2019 Vs AILET 2019

Many candidates who had appeared for CLAT exam had also taken the AILET 2019 paper. Like previous years, all the candidates who appeared for both the exams felt that CLAT 2019 was an easier paper than AILET 2019. As per Shikha, “If I compare CLAT 2019 with last years’ papers or AILET 2019 paper, I would say that AILET was a very difficult paper. I could not complete 150 questions within the given time. In CLAT 2019 paper, I could easily attempt 170, 180 questions in two hours time.”

Jyotika from Mayur Public School shared, “I have given both AILET and CLAT exams this year. The difference between both the exams was that AILET was a bit harder and the time given to complete the paper was very less. Comparatively, CLAT exam was much easier and I was able to complete more than 150 questions in two hours. So, my CLAT exam went well but my AILET paper was not good. I hardly completed 50 questions in the exam.”
