Q: What are CLAT passing marks for the SC and ST category?
CLAT cut off is always released in the form of opening and closing ranks by each NLU after the conclusion of counseling rounds. Q: What are CLAT 2025 qualifying marks for the OBC category?

Q: Is 70 a good score in CLAT?
A score of 70 in CLAT can be considered moderate to good, depending on the overall difficulty level of the exam and the cutoff for different NLUs. Here's how it generally stands:
- Top NLUs (NLSIU, NALSAR, WBNUJS, etc.) – Typically require 85+ in CLAT. A score of 70 might not be sufficient for these institutions.
- Mid-Tier NLUs (NLUO, NLUJ, RMLNLU, etc.) – The cutoff varies, but a score of 70 might secure a seat in some of these.
- Lower NLUs & Private Law Colleges – A score of 70 could be enough for admission.
Your category, rank, and seat availability also influence admission chances.

Commonly asked questions
Q: Can I get NLU in 70 marks?
Whether you can get an NLU with 70 marks in CLAT depends on several factors, including the cutoff, category, and seat availability. Here's a general idea:
1. Top NLUs (NLSIU, NALSAR, WBNUJS, etc.)
Require 85+ marks for General Category.
With 70 marks, admission is unlikely unless you belong to a reserved category with a lower cutoff.
2. Mid-Tier NLUs (NLUO, RMLNLU, HNLU, etc.)
Cutoffs generally range between 70-85.
You may have a chance, especially in later rounds or through reserved category seats.
3. Lower-Ranked NLUs & Vacant Seats
Some NLUs may accept 70 marks in later rounds of counseling.
Private law colleges accepting CLAT scores could also be an option.
Final Verdict:
General Category: Admission to top or mid-tier NLUs is difficult but possible for lower-ranked NLUs.
Reserved Category: Chances are higher, depending on seat availability.
Consider waiting for later rounds or looking into state-based law universities accepting CLAT scores.

Q: What is a bad rank in CLAT?
A bad rank in CLAT is relative and depends on factors like your category, the NLUs you target, and overall competition. For general category candidates, ranks above 15,000 to 20,000 are typically considered weak, reducing chances of admission into top or even mid-tier National Law Universities. For reserved categories, the threshold might be higher, but still, a rank significantly above the cutoff range may be viewed unfavorably. Ultimately, a "bad rank" hampers your chances of securing a coveted seat and may force you to consider alternative law schools or reattempt the exam in subsequent years. Improving your score remains essential.

Q: Should I opt for sectional or full-length mock test for CLAT?
Both sectional and full-length mock tests are important for CLAT preparation, but their use depends on your preparation stage:
Sectional Mocks: If you are in the early or mid-stage of preparation, sectional mocks help in mastering specific topics like Logical Reasoning, Legal Aptitude, or Reading Comprehension. They allow focused practice and help identify weak areas.
Full-Length Mocks: As you progress, taking full-length mocks becomes crucial to develop time management, endurance, and exam temperament. They simulate the actual exam experience and help you analyze your overall performance.
Ideally, start with sectional mocks and gradually shift to full-length mocks as the exam nears.

Q: I am scoring 100 marks in CLAT Mock Test. Can I get same marks in the exam?
Scoring 100 marks in a CLAT mock test is a good indicator of your preparation, but it does not guarantee the same score in the actual exam. Several factors can influence your final performance, such as:
- Exam Pressure: The real exam environment may cause stress, which can affect accuracy and speed.
- Difficulty Level: The actual CLAT paper may be harder or easier than your mock tests.
- Time Management: Handling 120 questions in 120 minutes under pressure can impact performance.
- Mock Test Quality: Some mocks may be easier or harder than the actual CLAT.
To maximize your chances of maintaining or improving your score, analyze your mistakes, improve weak areas, and practice more full-length mocks.

- Candidates who do not meet the CLAT cutoff will not be eligible for admission to any NLU.
- For entry into the top three NLUs in the country, the cutoff is expected to be between 100 and 105.

- To be eligible for admission to any NLU, candidates should aim to score between 80 and 85 in CLAT 2025.
Commonly asked questions
Q: I scored 80 marks in the CLAT exam. Have I met the cutoff?
No, it is not possible for you to get the NLU, although at this score you must have already received admission letters from private universities. Better take a year's drop.
CLAT cut-off usually ranges between 95-100 for the general category while for SC/ST and OBC category CLAT cut-off usually ranges between 80-85. Based on the previous year's analysis, CLAT Cut-off 2025 for the top 3 NLUs is expected to be between 100-105, and for the top 5 NLUs, it is expected to be between 90-95.

Q: Is CLAT cutoff same for all NLUs?
The cutoff depends on a host of different factors like 1) the seat intake for the programme 2) the total applications received for admission 3) the CLAT merit rank of applicants, 4) category and 5) the NIRF Ranking or the popularity of the NLU. Now, given these factors may vary for each NLU, the cutoff would also vary accordingly. Candidates must note that they will be allotted NLU on the basis of marks, rank and the preference they have filled while submitting the CLAT Application Form 2025.

Q: Who can participate in CLAT counselling 2025?
Only those candidates who will clear CLAT Exam 2025 will be eligible to appear for the counselling rounds. CLAT 2025 qualified candidates will be able to participate in the counselling rounds. Candidates must note that the payment button will not appear if the candidate is not selected in CLAT 2025. Candidates will have to pay the required CLAT 2025 Counselling fee within the deadline to appear. In case, a candidate fails to submit the requisite fees, he or she will not be allowed.

Q: What is the difference between the CLAT qualifying and admission cutoffs?
The CLAT qualifying cutoff and CLAT admission cutoff are different in terms of purpose and criteria:
CLAT Qualifying Cutoff:
- It is the minimum score or percentile required to be considered for the admission process.
- Candidates must meet this cutoff to be eligible for counseling.
- This cutoff is usually lower than the admission cutoff.
CLAT Admission Cutoff:
- It is the final rank or score needed to secure a seat in a particular NLU.
- It varies based on factors like seat availability, category, and NLU ranking.
- Higher-ranked NLUs generally have higher admission cutoffs.
Thus, meeting the qualifying cutoff makes you eligible for counseling, but only meeting the admission cutoff ensures a seat in an NLU.

Factors Affecting CLAT 2025 Cutoffs
The cutoff marks for the CLAT exam each year are influenced by several factors:
- Difficulty Level of the Exam: If the exam is easier, the cutoff is likely to be higher, and conversely, a more challenging exam may result in a lower cutoff.
- Number of Applications Received: A higher number of applications can lead to a stricter cutoff, while fewer applications may result in a more relaxed cutoff.
- Number of Candidates Qualifying: If fewer candidates qualify than there are available seats, the cutoff tends to be lower.
- Total Number of Seats: An increase in the number of seats generally keeps the cutoff lower.
- Previous Year Cutoffs: For top NLUs, the previous year's cutoff marks were high, which meant that only the top-performing candidates were admitted. For other NLUs, the cutoff marks have been comparatively lower.
These factors have historically influenced CLAT cutoff marks and will continue to play a significant role this year as well.

Commonly asked questions
Q: I have 75 % in CBSE class 12th and my cutoff is 75. Can I get any NLU through CLAT?
Your CBSE Class 12th percentage (75%) meets the CLAT eligibility criteria, as the minimum requirement for General/OBC/EWS candidates is 45% (40% for SC/ST). However, NLU admission is based solely on your CLAT rank, not your 12th percentage.
Can You Get an NLU with a 75 CLAT Cut-off?
- A CLAT score of 75 corresponds to an approximate rank of 3000-4000.
- Top NLUs like NLSIU, NALSAR, and WBNUJS may be out of reach.
- Mid-ranked NLUs like NLUO, HNLU, and RMLNLU may be possible in later rounds.
- Lower-ranked NLUs like DSNLU, TNNLU, or MNLU Nagpur could be available.

Q: What is the minimum qualifying percentage for CLAT?
The minimum qualifying percentage for CLAT varies based on the candidate's category. The eligibility criteria are as follows:
CLAT Minimum Qualifying Percentage (Class 12th)
- General / OBC / EWS – 45%
- SC / ST – 40%
- Key Points:
Candidates must have passed Class 12th from a recognised board.
Even if you meet the qualifying percentage, admission depends on your CLAT rank, not just your 12th marks.
There is no minimum qualifying percentage for CLAT exam scoring, but higher marks improve your NLU chances.

Q: How is CLAT qualifying marks determined?
The CLAT qualifying marks are determined by the Consortium of NLUs based on the following factors:
1. Class 12th Percentage Criteria (Eligibility)
General / OBC / EWS: 45%
SC / ST: 40%
Candidates who do not meet this minimum percentage in Class 12th are not eligible for CLAT.
2. CLAT Cut-off Marks (Admission Criteria)
No fixed qualifying marks in the CLAT exam.
The cut-off depends on factors like exam difficulty, number of applicants, and seat availability.
For top NLUs, a score of 95+ is typically required.
3. Tie-Breaking Rules
If two candidates score the same marks, the following is considered:
Higher marks in the Legal Aptitude section
Older candidate (based on DOB)
Computerized draw of lots (if tie persists)

Previous Year CLAT Cutoffs
Commonly asked questions
Q: What does CLAT Cutoff mean?
The CLAT cutoff refers to the minimum rank or score required to secure admission into a National Law University (NLU) through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).
Types of CLAT Cutoffs:
- Opening Rank – The highest-ranked candidate admitted to an NLU.
- Closing Rank – The rank of the last candidate admitted in a specific category.
- Category-wise Cutoff – Different for General, OBC, SC, ST, and EWS candidates.
- Round-wise Cutoff – Released in multiple counseling rounds.
Who Decides CLAT Cutoff?
The Consortium of NLUs releases the cutoff based on exam difficulty, number of candidates, and seat availability.

Q: How is CLAT cutoff calculated?
The CLAT cutoff is calculated based on several factors that influence the minimum rank or score required for admission to an NLU.
Factors Affecting CLAT Cutoff Calculation
- Total Number of Candidates Appearing – Higher competition leads to a higher cutoff.
- Difficulty Level of the Exam – If the paper is tough, the cutoff is lower, and vice versa.
- Total Number of Seats Available – Fewer seats lead to higher cutoffs.
- Category-wise Reservations – SC, ST, OBC, and EWS candidates have different cutoffs.
- Previous Year Trends – The Consortium considers past years' cutoffs for reference.
Cutoff Calculation Process
- After the CLAT exam, candidates' scores are arranged in descending order.
- Based on seat availability, the last admitted candidate's rank becomes the closing rank (cutoff) for that NLU.
- Cutoffs vary across NLUs and category-wise reservations impact the final numbers.

Q: How much rank should I score to get NLU?
To get into an NLU through CLAT, your rank depends on the NLU's tier and your category. For top NLUs like NLSIU, NALSAR, and WBNUJS, a rank under 500 is required. Mid-tier NLUs like HNLU, RMLNLU, and NLUO admit candidates with ranks between 500-4000. Lower-ranked NLUs accept candidates up to 12000 ranks. Category-based reservations lower the cutoff for SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates. A General category student should aim for a rank under 4000 to secure an NLU seat. Higher ranks may still secure admission in later rounds.

Q: How much rank should I score to get NLU Jodhpur?
To secure admission to NLU Jodhpur, a General category candidate should aim for a rank under 350. For OBC/EWS, ranks up to 1000 may be considered, while SC candidates need a rank within 5000-6000, and ST candidates within 9000-12000. The cutoff varies yearly based on exam difficulty, number of applicants, and seat availability. Higher-ranked candidates get priority in the CLAT counseling rounds. If your rank is slightly above the cutoff, you may still get a seat in later counseling rounds.
