How I got admission in my dream college: Ishu Deshmukh
Life is not easy to live. Life is all about facing hurdles and troubles.
Being born in a lower middle class family where nobody knows even a single word of English, I feel elated that I am an NLUite. I had never thought that I will be studying in such a prestigious college but eventually, hard work always pays off.
College life is the most important part of one’s life. College life is that part of your life which you are going to re-live in your memories till your last breath. I have been an average student since the very beginning of my school life. Actually, I had no clue of CLAT till 12th class. I got to know about CLAT from one of my friends at the end of class 12 when the date of filling CLAT form had been closed. I had always thought of choosing engineering as my career option. But since I was not able to get into any premier college for engineering, like IITs, NITs, etc., I didn’t take admission in an engineering college. I suddenly decided to pursue law as my career.
And to begin with this drama, I took a drop year and started preparing for Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) in the year 2014 after the completion of my higher secondary education. I joined Career Launcher, Bhilai to prepare for CLAT entrance exam as it was the only coaching centre in Bhilai for CLAT. It was not that easy to clear CLAT. I used to study the whole day and gave my 100% to clear the exam. It was one of the most troublesome years of my life. The day I went for CLAT exam, I was lost for words on seeing the question paper on the screen, which was kind of like an out-of-syllabus paper. I felt like I would not be able to clear CLAT but still, as I had to sit there for 2 hours, I tried my best and solved the questions. I returned from the exam hall crying.
After the result came, I was not sure whether I would get selected or not and till the 3rd list came, I was not allotted any college. I had made up my mind to go for a private college. But a day before I was going to take admission in a private college, I was allotted Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur and it was one of the best nights for me.
And then came the beginning of the college life- the journey which I had dreamt of. As I had never been to any prestigious school, I always wanted to be in a college which was prestigious. Also, I wanted to be in a national college, whether it be for Engineering, Law or Medicine.
After getting admission in Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur, I was excited enough to start my college journey but at the same time, I was nervous of going to a new world where there will be new people, teachers and I’ll have to start my hostel life. I had never been in a hostel, so I was a bit nervous for that also. Finally, I went to the university and met many new students from different parts of India. One of my coaching friends also joined with me, so I was a bit happy that I knew someone in this new world. And then came the convocation day for the freshers. We attended the convocation, met with new people and got to know about our college. What I realised in that drop year was ‘Never give up and just believe in yourself’. Your hard work will definitely pay one day. So just dream, believe and achieve.
