'Others' PwD option removed from IMP application form at IIM Indore

IIM Indore has removed the 'others' disabilities category from its application form for the five-year Integrated Management Program (IMP). This program was offered only at IIM Indore, and could be opted by aspirants having disabilities. However, the ‘others’ disability option, that was available in the application form till last year, has now been removed from the application form.

Going forth, applicants having a disability will have the option of choosing disabilities from only three categories:

  • Low vision blindness
  • Hearing impairment
  • Locomotor disability/cerebral palsy

Since the institute has done away with the option of 'others' in the disabilities category, applicants suffering from any disability apart from the above mentioned, are now not eligible for the program. To keep the admission process in sync with the post-graduate program (PGP) in management (offered on the basis of CAT), the institute will now reserve only 3% seats under the disability quota.

Much debate has taken place about the policy over the past years, but the same will be implemented from now on. Changes have been made in the admission process of IMP, but are in sync with CAT exam process. Also, at the same time the quote rules comply by the People with Disabilities (PwD) Act. The changes have been made to parity in both processes, as in the fourth year, the students of the IMP batch merge with the students of PGP batch.

Though these changes have been announced, legally the stand of the institute cannot be challenged. However, according to activists, the rules do not comply by the procedure of inclusive education.

The formal coaching has its own perks, but students can also fetch good marks with IPMAT self-preparation. IPMAT exam preparation without coaching may require the student
