As a post-graduation student, we need to take placements seriously. Placements are what will define our career and become the stepping stone of where we will be heading in the future.

Here are the few insights I would like to share with you so that you are well-prepared in advance for placement during your MBA:

  • Start applying for the offline placements as soon as you start your second year of post-graduation. Never rely on on-campus placements (especially, if you are not studying in Tier-I or Tier-II institutes)
  • Create an account in the various recruiting agencies such as Naukri, LinkedIn, Co-cubes, Amcat, Freshers Job Alert, Shine India, to name a few.
  • If you are in the first year, then start applying for internships as early as possible because most of the top multi-national companies would close offering their internships before January and February itself. Make a note of such kind of companies, especially of those that have pre-placement offers (PPO). In case you get a PPO, you wouldn’t need to follow all the above tips.
  • I would like to stress on internship. Please choose your internship wisely because there would be few start-ups that may get closed by the time you start your internship. Also, try to take up a work-from-home type of internships (available on Shiksha), which may add value to your resume.
  • When it comes to placement interviews you will be only assessed on the basis of your specialisation. It is always advisable to refer all your subjects at least once before you go for your interview. Also, you will be assessed on your knowledge of the internships you have done in the past.
  • If you are from a managerial background you need to focus more on communication also because sometimes communication alone fetches you a placement which had happened many times.
  • Apart from all the points, you need to be confident during your entire interview process. If you are not confident you will become a failure even though you are well with your concepts.

Note: This is all based on my experiences only it would be advisable to follow all of those tips if you don’t have any plan and preparation towards your placements.
