What is NRA CET Scores Normalisation?
Normalisation is the term that many government job aspirants must have heard in various exams. What is NRA CET normalisation? National Recruitment Agency will normalise the scores of candidates for the examinations since it will be conducted in multiple shifts. This is done to take into account any variation in the difficulty levels of the question papers across various shifts. NRA CET normalisation means equalising the scores of candidates appeared in multiple shifts based on the difficulty level.
What is NRA CET Normalisation Formula?
NRA will use the normalisation formula to calculate the final score of a candidate based on the difficulty level of its shift. The formula is based on the average marks scored in a particular shift that determines the difficulty level. The normalization is based on the fundamental assumption that in all multi-shift examinations, the distribution of abilities of candidates is the same across all the shifts. The number of candidates appearing in multiple shifts in NRA CET exam will be large and the procedure for allocation of examination shifts to candidates is random.
For example, if the average marks scored by candidates in the first shift is 120 marks out of 200 and the average marks scored by students in the second shift is 100 marks out of 200 marks, then the marks will be normalized as the second shift was difficult.
The following formula will be used to calculate the final score of candidates in the multi-shift examination.
Importance of NRA CET Normalisation
Normalisation brings transparency in the calculation of the scores. It is seen that some aspirants get a hard question paper whereas some get an easy level question paper. To adjust the difficulty level of the question papers so that there is no disparity among students, normalisation is done. It is near to impossible that all exam shifts paper sets would belong to an identical level and nature of questions and here normalisation plays an important role. After normalisation, there might be possibility that organization may add a mark or two in the total score of the candidate if the paper of his/her shift was very difficult in comparison to other shifts or may deduct a mark or two in the reverse scenario.
