Exam Day Checklist for NEST 2021 - Dos and Don'ts

The National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) will be conducted on August 14 in two shifts i.e from 9 am to 12:30 pm for the morning shift, and from 2 pm to 5:30 pm for the evening shift. On the day of the exam, a lot goes inside the minds of the test-takers, which often lead to one or the other mistakes or glitches. Hence, this article of Shiksha brings the NEST 2021 exam day guidelines, dons and don'ts so that they are completely prepared for the exam day. First, let us check the Dos of the exam day before we check the Don'ts. 

Dos for NEST 2021 Exam Day

Candidates must do the following to appear for the exam in a hassle-free manner. 

Download the admit card beforehand

The NEST 2021 admit card was released on August 1. Candidates must have downloaded the admit card of NEST 2021 by now and checked the details and exam day instructions. Candidates should take at least two printouts on A4 size paper. The print quality should be good so that the information and photograph are clearly visible. 

Check the exam centre location 

Candidates should check the exam centre location before the exam day. The exact location or the exam centre address is mentioned on the admit card of NEST 2021. Therefore it is advised that candidates check the location, distance, and time required to reach the exam centre on the exam day. Moreover, as the candidates are required to go through admit card and other verification at the centre, it is advised that they start an hour earlier than the expected time required to reach the test centre location.

Documents to be carried on the exam day

The exam authority has specified that the test-takers should carry a photo ID proof along with their admit card for verification purpose. This is done to avoid cheating practices by impersonation of a candidate. The photo ID proof should be as validated by the Government of India, and any of the following: 

  • Voter ID proof 
  • PAN Card 
  • UID Aadhaar Card
  • Driver' License 
  • College ID or School ID
  • Passport 

Other than this, candidates should also carry their own stationery items for filling the OMR sheet. The exam centre officials will not provide any stationery for writing the examination. 

Reporting to the exam centre

Candidates need to report to the exam centre 90 minutes or 1.5 hours before the exam timings for candidature verification by the test centre officials. Candidates should carry the required documents along with the admit card. The exam authority specifies that no entry will be allowed inside the examination hall after 30 minutes of starting the examination. Therefore, candidates should stick to the reporting timings as under:

NEST exam timings  Reporting timings 
9 am to 12:30 pm  7.30 am  to 9:25 am (No entry allowed after 9:30 am)
2 pm to 5:30 pm  12.30 pm to 2:25 pm (No entry allowed after 2:30 pm)

Things to Carry to the Test Centre

Candidates must carry their own blue or black pen. Apart from this, they must follow the COVID-19 safety protocols by wearing masks (preferably be double-masked), carry a personal hand sanitiser (50 ml)  and a transparent water bottle.

Don'ts for NEST 2021 Exam Day

Candidates should avoid the following on the day of the exam, otherwise, their candidature may get cancelled. 

Do not carry prohibited items

Candidates should avoid carrying any prohibited items such as mobile phones, watches, valuables and study material to the exam centre. The candidate should follow the instructions of the exam centre officials to avoid cancellation of candidature due to indiscipline. 

Do not leave the centre before time

Test-takers are not allowed to leave the centre at least two hours after the test. For example, candidates from the first slot should not leave before 11 am or those in the second slot should not leave before 4.30 pm unless there is a medical emergency.

Do not follow any unfair means

Candidates should not get involved in any unfair means during the exam. In case any discrepancy is found in their activities, they will not be allowed to take the test and their candidature will get cancelled as well. 

The NEST 2021 exam will be conducted in computer-based mode for a duration of 3.5 hours. Each section is of 50 marks each and will contain subject-specific questions from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
