It is one of the finest colleges under Calcutta University.

Placements: This is not a placement-oriented course. Some of the students applied for government jobs or other jobs after doing B.Sc. Physics, but actually there is no role for physics in these jobs. Maximum students selected M.Sc. or integrated Ph.D. for their future career options.

Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the college is very good. Classrooms and libraries are good. There are two types of library facilities. You can collect books from the central library or from department libraries for books related to special topics. But the college campus is too small to enjoy campus life to its fullest.

Faculty: Faculty members are good. Teachers have good qualifications and research projects. They are helpful and serious about their course structure and completing the syllabus. They sometimes offer research opportunities to passionate students.

It is a good college with good vibes and reputation with competitive students.

Placements: Almost everyone from the previous year from our department got a chance in various IITs, NISERs and TIFR, and many other universities like Shivpur, Pune, Delhi, and Calcutta University. In our department, they don't arrange any campusing but hold various seminars in which many scientists and researchers and ex-students are invited to share their experiences and knowledge to inspire us to avail higher studies.

Infrastructure: Facilities regarding studies are average. They have everything that is necessary for the studies to go smoothly. But it doesn't seem that way in the first impression. Labs are well maintained but there are some problems regarding space management. Department got their own library apart from the main library of the college. The main library is huge and they have almost everything. They don't have any free Wi-Fi zone. and using mobile inside the college campus is strictly prohibited. Hostels are a bit old but the rooms are huge and comfortable. Mess and canteens in both hostel and college are average. Regarding sports, we have a huge playground but it's far from the main college campus. But you can enjoy playing table tennis and carrom inside the college and hostel.

Faculty: Professors are well qualified and helpful. But some of them are not helpful at all. Still, maximum teaches try their best to share their experiences and knowledge with the students. College provides a variety of courses and they are relevant to the time. Exams are conducted by Calcutta University and you have to study hard and smartly to get good numbers. Almost 95% of students get passed every year.

Other: The best thing about the college is that it provides a total political disturbance-free atmosphere which is very rare in Kolkata. They hold many programs all around the year like sports fest, extra curriculum fest, fresher's party and so on. The most frustrating thing about the college is it doesn't have a proper campus area. It feels congested and suffocating sometimes.

A review on SCC from a student of physics department.

Placements: Currently, I am studying M.Sc Physics at Jadavpur University. A lot of my classmates are in IITs, IIScs, TIFR, etc. Once you get into the college, you never have to worry about yourself. But, you must work hard. The other departments are also very good. It is one of the best colleges in the city.

Infrastructure: The college infrastructure is very good. The college campus is very beautiful. The college has a playground, but that is far away from the campus. There are 5 big hostels to accommodate students from outside of Kolkata. It's quite fortunate for someone for being a member of Scottish family.

Faculty: We never felt like teacher and student, they were like a family. Their way of explanation was very smooth. Actually, some of them work harder than students. There are libraries with a lot of books. The relationship between teachers and students is very good. They are very caring about students. I am really lucky for being an ex-student of this department.

I am satisfied with the faculty members and with the laboratory.

Placements: Placement offers from this college depends upon your self. The college has a placement team who connect the students with few companies, but they are not so famous. So if you want to get a job immediately after Bachelors degree from this college, then you have to try yourself.

Infrastructure: The college is the very first college of British India. All classrooms are excellent. Facilities like Wi-Fi and a vast library are available here. Students get medical facilities, and also a doctor is available always. A huge common room is there for indoor games, and a playground is also there for cricket, football, volleyball. Hostel facilities are also available for both girls and boys.

Faculty: Most of the faculty members are passionate about teaching. They may also call students to their home for clarifying doubts. Few faculty here only comes to take the salary. They teach the students by using a powerpoint presentation. The student to faculty ratio is 16:1.

Other: The college gives yearly scholarship for poor and intelligent students. The college also organises freshers welcome party, farewell, and a grand Caledonia fest.

Yes, it's based on marks obtained in 12th. You have to have 70% in aggregate and 70% in that subject that you are going to apply for (Like: if you want to do B.Sc mathematics then you must have to score 70% or above ).
