AMU PhD courses are doctoral level courses that have a duration of five years. PhD at AMU is offered in many specialisations across most departments of the institute including PhD in Home Science, Hindi, Commerce, Tourism, Law, Biochemistry, Business Administration, etc.

The PhD admission fees at AMU ranges between INR 13,300 - INR 26,100 for the academic year 2026. Most PhD courses have an admission fees of INR 13,300 which must be paid after the personal interview round, if the candidate is selected for PhD admissions.

AMU PhD Admission Dates 2026
The AMU PhD admission dates are inline with the AMU entrance exam schedule for the PhD course. However, the UGC NET is also an accepted entrance exam for PhD admissions at AMU. Thus, candidates should track either the dates of AMU entrance exam or te UGC NET to not miss the AMU PhD deadline.

Aligarh Muslim University PhD Admission 2026: How to Apply?
Candidates who apply for the Aligarh Muslim University PhD course admissions will be chosen on entrance basis. The AMU PhD application process can be completed in online mode by an eligible candidate. The accepted entrance exams for Aligarh Muslim University admission include UGC NET and AMU entrance exam.

STEP 1: AMU PhD Application Process

AMU PhD seats are offered differently by each department for its offered specialisations. Each PhD course can have a seat intake of 1 - 94 seats each for the general category. However, the AMU PhD seat reservations also offer seats differently for SC/ST, PwD, International/ NRI candidates.

The total number of PhD seats offered by AMU is 884 for admissions in the academic year 2026. Out of the 884 seats, 807 seats are offered to the general category students while the remaining 77 are reserved seats.
