Thapar University: How to convert CGPA to Percentage

Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET) is a UGC approved "Deemed to be University" located in Patiala. It was formerly known as Thapar University. It follows a 10-point grading system to evaluate the academic performance of students. Students of TIET often have to convert their CGPA into a percentage while applying for higher education, placements, internships, scholarship schemes and government exams. 

Candidates must use the Thapar University CGPA to Percentage Conversion tool or the prescribed formula for easy and accurate academic scores. 

Thapar University Grading System 

Each letter grade  indicates the level of performance in a course and has a grade point for purposes of  calculating the CGPA, as given below: 

CGPA is the weighted average of all the grades awarded to a student since his/her entry into the  Institute up to and including the latest semester and is computed as follows:

CGPA = (∑Ci Gi) / (∑Ci) 

Where:

Ci- Number of credits assigned to ith course 

Gi - grade point equivalent to the letter grade obtained by the student in the ith course.

Note: When a student repeats a course, the new grade will replace the earlier one in the calculation of the  CGPA. 

Students must also note that, while calculating CGPA, I or X grades secured by the student shall not be taken into account.

Why Is CGPA to Percentage Conversion Important?

Many recruiters, universities, and competitive exam authorities ask candidates to provide their academic scores in percentage format. Since Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET) Academic Regulation awards grades through a 10-point CGPA system, students must convert their scores whenever percentage-based eligibility criteria are mentioned.
