How Many Hostels Does Thapar University Have?

Thapar operates 17 on-campus hostels on the Patiala campus - 10 for boys and 7 for girls. All hostels include high-speed Wi-Fi, secured entry, round-the-clock staffing, and on-site amenities.

Thapar University Boys Hostels

Agira Hall (Hostel-A) — Capacity: 928. Double-sharing rooms with shared washrooms, fully furnished. Four elevators, gymnasium, water coolers with RO, laundry service, night canteen. Mess run by a professional catering company.

Amritam Hall (Hostel-B) — Capacity: 723. Spacious rooms with beds, study tables, and almirahs. 24/7 Wi-Fi, shared bathrooms with geysers, TV room, gymnasium, air-conditioned study room, night canteen, laundry service. CCTV surveillance and 24-hour security guard.

Prithvi Hall (Hostel-C) — Capacity: 387. Air-conditioned two- and three-seater rooms with shared washrooms. Water cooler with RO, TV/common room, reading room, indoor games (table tennis, chess, carrom), landscaped lawns with fountains.

Neeram Hall (Hostel-D) — Capacity: 928. Double-sharing rooms with shared washrooms, fully furnished. Four elevators, gymnasium, water coolers with RO, laundry service, night canteen. Mess run by a professional catering company.

Vyan Hall (Hostel-H) — Capacity: 680 (600 students; 240 in AC rooms). Gymnasium, TV room, table tennis room, reading room. Mess menu managed by a student-warden-caretaker committee. Primarily houses first-year students.

Tejas Hall (Hostel-J) — Capacity: 1,170. Single-seater rooms across 78 clusters (11 rooms each), geysers and seating in each cluster. 24/7 Wi-Fi, gymnasium, air-conditioned reading room, four elevators, open-air theatre, air-conditioned guest rooms, in-house online complaint system, night mess. CCTV and fire alarms throughout.

Ambaram Hall (Hostel-K) — Capacity: 600. Two floors, two blocks, water purifiers and geysers per block, high-speed internet. Gym, TV room, indoor games, reading rooms, laundry room, two guest rooms, large parking area, lawns.

Viyat Hall (Hostel-L) — Capacity: 300. Air-conditioned double-occupancy rooms, adjacent to Thapar Polytechnic. Dining area for 150 students, night canteen, air-conditioned reading/TV room, gym, library-cum-reading room, indoor games, laundry service, guest rooms.

Anantam Hall (Hostel-M) — Capacity: 1,148. Single and double-seater air-conditioned rooms across four towers, eight floors. Two elevators per block, gymnasium, 24/7 Wi-Fi, water coolers with RO, laundry service, guest rooms, sick rooms, fire alarms.

Vyom Hall (Hostel-O) — Capacity: 928. Double-sharing rooms with shared washrooms, fully furnished, washing machines available. Four elevators, gymnasium, 24/7 Wi-Fi, mess run by a professional catering company, night canteen.

Hostel-FRF/G — Capacity: 480. Three-seater non-AC rooms with attached washrooms. High-speed Wi-Fi, mess operated by Sodexo, on-site laundry. Located adjacent to TIET's 400m track.

Thapar University Girls Hostels

Vasudha Hall – Block E (Hostel-E) — Capacity: 234. Rooms furnished with beds, study tables, curtains, almirah. LED TV with DTH in common area, gym, indoor/outdoor games, night canteen, first aid box, 24-hour ambulance service, water coolers with RO, 24-hour security.

Vasudha Hall – Block G (Hostel-G) — Capacity: 234. Recently renovated. Wi-Fi, water coolers with RO, parking, student-run mess committee, senior-student counselor team, shared hangout space with Block E.

Ira Hall (Hostel-I) — Capacity: 436. Gymnasium, 24/7 lift access, air-conditioned reading-cum-library room, air-conditioned guest rooms for parents/guardians.

Ananta Hall (Hostel-N) — Capacity: 500 (up to 499 residents). Single and double-seater rooms, fully air-conditioned. Water coolers with RO on each floor, housekeeping, laundry, 24/7 Wi-Fi, gymnasium, air-conditioned reading rooms, two elevators, open stage, guest rooms, CCTV and fire alarms, online room-allocation system.

Dhriti Hall (Hostel-PG) — Capacity: 928. Air-conditioned double-occupancy rooms with shared facilities. TV lounge, gymnasium, air-conditioned study area, night café, laundry service, 24/7 Wi-Fi, four elevators, CCTV and round-the-clock security.

Vahni Hall (Hostel-Q) — Capacity: 928. Air-conditioned double-sharing rooms with shared restrooms. TV room, gymnasium, air-conditioned study area, night café, laundry service, four elevators, CCTV and fire alarms, mess managed by an internationally recognised catering company.

Pavani Hall (Hostel-PG-2) — Capacity: 480. Three-seater non-AC rooms with attached washrooms. High-speed Wi-Fi, mess operated by Sodexo, on-site laundry.

All girls' hostels prohibit male visitors and maintain round-the-clock security.

For BTech CSE, I would choose Thapar over LPU if you get CSE at Thapar and can comfortably afford it. Thapar has the stronger engineering reputation and generally better peer group and placement outcomes.

For CSE, I'd personally choose Thapar. Engineering reputation, peer group and placement opportunities are generally stronger. LPU is good too, especially if fees/scholarship is a major factor, but if budget isn't an issue, Thapar would be my pick.

For BTech CSE, I'd personally choose Thapar. It has a stronger engineering reputation and generally better placement opportunities. LPU is good too, especially if scholarship or fees are a major concern, but if budget isn't an issue, Thapar would be my pick.

Thapar is a pretty good engineering institute overall. It has strong academics, good placements, experienced faculty and decent industry exposure. The institute is also ranked 29th in NIRF 2025 Engineering. If you're getting a good branch there, I'd definitely consider it.

Yes, Thapar University offers a few B.Sc. specializations, but if your interest is Fashion Design, I'd honestly suggest having a look at LPU too. Yes, B.Tech programs are available. The university offers several specializations including computer related electronics mechanical civil biotechnology and other engineering branches. Eligibility and admission criteria may vary depending on the course you choose.
