Placements: In my course, there are only a few students who will be placed. This institute is the only one to offer a Bachelor's in Petroleum Engineering in the entire northeast region, so the competition is very low. It provides the students with many opportunities to fulfill their dreams.
Infrastructure: Classrooms are good enough. Yes, there are no air conditioners, but still, this institute provides a good infrastructure. Moving to the hostel, the hostels are average, not so good, not so bad. A good atmosphere for study, very neat and clean, hygienic mess and a very quiet environment.
Faculty: The faculty members are very kind and helpful. They help us a lot in our academics. They are highly qualified, like they have Doctorate degrees, and in my course, Petroleum Engineering, the faculty members are ex-employees of very big companies like ONGC, Oil, Schlumberger, and all.
Other: I chose this course because of my interest in this field, and I chose this institute only because this institute is near my hometown and it provides me with a lot of opportunities.

Dibrugarh University is one of the most prestigious institutions in Northeast India.
Placements: Almost 80 percent of the total students were placed with a decent package as freshers. The institute also provides us with internship facilities; by doing so, it is easier to communicate with the companies during the final year. The highest package from this branch is 18 LPA and the lowest is 5 LPA.
Infrastructure: The labs and the classrooms are well organized, and the capacity for the students is quiet enough. The institution also provides hostel facilities and the rooms are double- and single-seaters. The canteens are of affordable prices and a clean environment.
Faculty: The teachers are the scholars and very helpful. They tried to make the students comfortable so that they do not panic and the exams are quite tricky, which is necessary for today's world competition. The pass percentage of the students is 60% of the total strength of the branch.

Our university provides good infrastructure and better placements.
Placements: Around 61 students got placed in this course out of 170 students. The lowest salary package offered was 4 LPA. The maximum salary package offered was 22 LPA. Top recruiting companies are ONGC, Cognizant, etc. You have to find internships yourselves.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is better. Classrooms are average. Our campus has good study environment. Several books are available in the library. Free Wi-Fi is enabled on our campus. Laboratories are well-equipped. Everything is good in this college. There is a health center on our campus.
Faculty: All teachers are Ph.D. scholars. They are knowledgeable and helpful. The course curriculum does not make students ready for the industry.
Other: I chose this course because of my interest in it.

DUIET - unknown to many.
Placements: About 40% of the total students got placed in 2021 in pandemic situation in petroleum engineering branch, which is quite good. The highest package offered is 22lpa for 3 students, and the lowest is 4 LPA for 7 students. Top recruiters are ONGC, OIL etc.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the university is very good. Lush green campus is available. The campus looks very beautiful in spring. There are two libraries here in the campus. The quality of the hostel for girls is very good but the quality of the hostel for boys is the worst.
Faculty: Faculty to students ratio is 1:12 which is quite good. Faculty are very good and helpful. If you want to do research in a particular field, then they will help you with that and help you in publishing papers in national journals and international journals.
Other: I am pursuing petroleum engineering here and I chose petroleum engineering because of its good career aspects as its one of the highest-paid B.Tech degrees of engineering in India.

Decent enough for Petroleum Engineering except for the faculty.
Placements: Earlier, Cairn India used to visit the campus. From 2016, Oil India also started recruiting from our department. ONGC has started to visit the campus from 2018 and overall, the placements are good. However, apart from these companies, no other companies visit the campus as of yet. Placement cell is good, but can be improved a lot. The highest Package: ONGC - 18LPA,
Cairn India - 13LPA.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is excellent. The department has some of the best laboratory apparatus in India, which needs to be used and showcased properly. The hostel has wi-fi connectivity. Food is decent. Hostel rooms are spacious. The library is well stocked and there are sports activities going on around the year.
Faculty: In my batch, there were 72 students in a batch, which has now come down to 30 in a batch. The course curriculum is according to the one followed by IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. The teachers are well qualified but not very welcoming or knowledgeable. The teachers are pass outs from the University itself. Some diversity in teacher recruitment will help the institute in the long run.
Other: Fest is one the best in North-East India. The campus is well connected by rail, road and air. Distance to the railway station is 5 km and airport is 12 km. The Campus Life is awesome and it is missed by everyone leaving at the end of their stay. Scholarships, however, are hard to come by.

DIbrugarh University: The best place to live and graduate whilst also bagging an awesome job.
Placements: We were the first batch of the B.Tech (Petroleum engineering) course (2009-13). Considering this, we had a pretty good placement season. Almost 50% students out of a total 60 were placed in campus placements in the core sector (Upstream Oil & Gas). The rest opted for either off campus placements or went for higher studies (M.Tech and PhD). The most prominent companies which visited the campus were E&P majors Cairn India Limited, ONGC, OIL, Weatherford and Halliburton. Apart from these, local service companies Udipta Energy, JayBee Energy (Drilling), North Eastern Drilling, Greka Drilling, Ranco Energy, Naithani Oil & Gas were some other companies which visited the campus. The highest CTC offered was 12.5 LPA (Cairn India Limited) and the lowest was 3.5 LPA (Udipta Energy). The roles offered varied from Petroleum Engineer to Mud logging engineer, assistant driller, drilling engineer, assistant executive engineer etc. Internship was 100% for our batch as well as for our junior batch. Stipend of 40,000 per month plus TA/DA was paid by Cairn India Limited. We had a very active training and placement cell which had an excellent relationship with the industry and it strive to provide 100% internships and placements to all the students.
Infrastructure: The department has state-of-the-art facilities including Wi-Fi, a fully equipped central library within the department as well as in the main University building. The speciality of the department is its various labs with the latest and the newest equipment with highly qualified lab technicians. An added advantage is that we have active collaboration with the Applied Geology as well as the Petroleum Technology departments and their facilities are at our disposal as well. It comes under the TIFAC-CORE of Ministry of Science & Technology, government. Of India. Classrooms are equipped with all the latest audio-visual aids. There are 3 hostels for boys and 2 for girls exclusively, within the University campus, which are fully furnished. In total there are 5 canteens/cafeterias spread across the campus with a wide variety of food choices available, though it'll be difficult to get South-Indian food.
Faculty: We have one of the healthiest faculty to student ratio. The faculty is highly qualified and all of them hold prior industry work experience. They organize frequent field trips to nearby oil fields as well as the Polytechnic to make the learning a rich experience for the students. They are also involved in active research with the industry and students intern under them. The course curriculum is at par with the latest industry requirements/technologies and frequent guest lectures from dignitaries of nearby industries viz. ONGC, OIL are organized by them.
Other: Dibrugarh is one of the best places to be because of its pleasant climate throughout the year. It is one of the most scenic places in the north east owing to the nearby Brahmaputra river as well as the surrounding tea gardens. We also organize the largest national level techno-cultural festival in the north east called Auxesis, which witnesses a crowd from all over India. Apart from this, we take part in the festivals conducted by other departments of the University. Every year Varsity week is conducted in Feb-March where all the departments of the University come together to take part in a plethora of sports and cultural activities. Dibrugarh is very well connected with the rest of India, by Air, by Rail as well as by Road. The airport is a mere 20 kms from the University, whereas the Rajdhani Express as well other Express trains run daily from both its railway stations. On top of that, the NH-37 passes through the heart of the University.

Department of petroleum technology- The only college in NE to offer B.Tech in petroleum.
Placements: In the previous years, the department of petroleum engineering has offered excellent campus placements, i.e. OIL India and ONGC. Out of 60 students, 24 were eligible to appear for the placement out of which 6 were selected in ONGC, and 5 were selected in OIL with an annual package between 15 LPA - 18LPA. The rest are doing M.Tech in Dibrugarh University, University of Dehradun, IIT Guwahati etc.
Infrastructure: There is a separate building for a department of petroleum engineering within the Dibrugarh University campus. We share our laboratories with other departments like department of Applied geology, department of petroleum technology and share all the additional infrastructures like Rangghar University, playground, gymnasium, cafeteria etc. with Dibrugarh University. The library is well-equipped with required books, references, journals.
Faculty: We have our department faculty members who teach, and also faculty members from the department of applied geology and department of petroleum technology take classes on major topics. The teachers teach both as per syllabus and also on GATE pattern. The student-teacher interaction is the main tool used while teaching to make the classroom interesting.

Placements: Placement batch 2015: 0, due to recession in oil exploration industry as international crude prices were low.
Placement batch 2016: 1, executive trainee - reservoir engineer at Oil India Limited, package ctc 12 lac/annum.
Placement Batch 2017: 7 assistant executive engineer in ONGC Ltd, ctc 14 lac/annum; 4 executive trainee in Oil India Limited, ctc 12 lac/annum.
Infrastructure: Department: drilling fluids lab, reservoir lab, petroleum product testing lab, LAN, conference room, smart class, Indian/Chinese/continental cafeteria. Attached to highway, communication is excellent.
Hostel: newly built, LAN, wifi broadband unlimited, mess food is average, clean water 24x7 running, 5 min walk to highway for bus, 5 km from railway station, 25 km airport.
Faculty: Industry experienced young and dynamic faculty, helpful and friendly. The knowledge base is impressive and approachable in nature. Helpful in project and internship. Student to faculty ratio is 30:1. Course carefully designed and inspired from IIT (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad. The course includes maximum subjects of the upstream domain in oil and gas exploration and production industry. Course fee is Rs. 3.9 lac in 4 years.
Other: Department of petroleum engineering and hostel are located inside the Dibrugarh University campus itself. Adjacent to NH37, 5 km from Dibrugarh Town railway station, 25 km from Dibrugarh Airport. Climate is moderate and comforting, natural disasters risk is low. Dibrugarh town is 5 km from the campus, having all modern day amenities. Dibrugarh University was established by govt. of Assam in 1965 as a hub for technical education, comprises of 34 departments.
