IKGPTU: Strong Placements, Modern Facilities, Quality Education, and Scholarship Opportunities

Placements: The pass-out batch has been placed in various companies. Last year, in 2023, over 100 students were placed, with an average package of 6 LPA. Recruiters such as TCS, HDFC Bank, Infosys, Wipro, and many others participated in the IKGPTU placements. Around 45% of students also secured internships from courses at Hoping Minds and other institutions.

Infrastructure: The facilities and infrastructure at I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University are well-developed. All rooms are fully air-conditioned, and the entire campus has Wi-Fi access. The common rooms are fully equipped. The campus has a Knowledge Resource Center (KRC) library with a wide range of books. There is a student study center and a computer center, both offering Wi-Fi access. The campus also features an indoor stadium, an outdoor stadium, a basketball court, and a badminton court. Additionally, the Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Auditorium. The seating capacity of 800. There are 3 boys' hostels and 2 girls' hostels on the main campus, all within walking distance of the academic buildings. For security, the hostels are monitored by male and female security guards, and caretakers are present at the entrance and boundaries. The hostels also have guest rooms for visitors.

Faculty: All teachers are highly qualified and talented, with some of them holding Ph.D degrees. Their teaching style is effective and supportive. The course curriculum is relevant and with industry needs. It covers core subjects, provides hands-on experience, and benefits from the expertise of the faculty. There are also opportunities for research and the integration of modern technology.

Other: Every year, several events are organized, and students take part in various activities. A 2-3 day youth fest is held where different colleges participate. IKGPTU offers tuition fee waivers, and the government of Punjab provides 100% scholarships for SC students who are residents of Punjab. Scholarships are also available for students from other states.

Decent infrastructure but average placement and limited resources.

Placements: In our college, about 50 to 55 percent of students got placed, but it changes very frequently. The highest package was 12 LPA, while the average is about 5-6 LPA. The lowest is, of course, not getting placed. In our college, most get off-campus jobs, but there are some companies that visit us, like Infosys, TCS, Cognizant, and a few more. Most students take unpaid internships in their second year, but some do secure internships in TCS or in private firms through referrals. Mostly, students who get placed land software development jobs, but it's not 100% the same for everyone. Overall, the placement by the college is mid-level, but if you work hard, you will make it.

Infrastructure: The campus has well-maintained buildings, air-conditioned classrooms, and a big library (open Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM). However, Wi-Fi is not available on every floor, and the facilities are decent but have room for improvement. Hostel facilities are basic but functional, with rooms having a bed, desk, chair, attached washrooms, and a small balcony. The food in the mess is average but has a varied menu. There are sports facilities including a cricket ground, indoor stadium, basketball court, badminton court, and an auditorium. That's all you will ever need, I guess.

Faculty: The teachers are well-educated, approachable, and supportive, each bringing a unique style of teaching that makes the learning experience easier. The curriculum provides a good balance of theory and practical work, designed to offer hands-on experience, making it somewhat industry-relevant. The difficulty of semester exams is not that hard; everything will be from the syllabus with a mid-level of difficulty, so it’s not a big deal. You can maintain an 8 CGPA if you work hard.

Other: The course was chosen for its balance of theory and practical work, and the best aspects include hands-on experience and approachable faculty. Improvement could be made in resources and facilities, as all are limited. Just one event I would highlight is Aggazz; other than that, you will find everything similar to what a third-tier college offers.
