IIST Admission Overview 2026
Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) admission is entrance-based. admission is governed by the reservation policy laid down by the government. The institution also accepts national-level entrance exams like JEE Main, JEE Advanced, GATE, etc. IIST offers undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD, and dual degree programmes under seven departments Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, Chemistry, Earth & Space Sciences, Humanities, Mathematics, and Physics. Other than regular degrees the institution also offers dual degrees in BTech+ MTech and doctoral-level programme in above mentioned departments. Further, the PG programmes are offered in both regular and sponsored mode.

No, candidates can not take direct admission at IIST. The institute offers only entrance-based admission into different UG and PG courses. The college accepts score of entrance exam such as JEE Main, JEE Advance for BTech. The college accepts score of GATE for MSc or M.Tech admissions.
IIST admission is open only to specific courses for the academic session 2026. The college has admissions open for Btech, as JEE Main is ongoing for session 2. The organising institute for GATE 2024 was IISc Bangalore. The exam was conducted online as a computer-based test for 29 papers. Candidates had to solve 65 questions in 180 minutes (3 hours). IIST Online Application Process 2026
The application process for IIST is completely online for all the courses. Before applying, aspirants must check the required qualifications for admission to the desired course. Eligible students can visit the IIST official website (http://admission.iist.ac.in)to fill out the application form. Candidates must pay the application fee for each course (the fees vary by category).
Selection Process
IIST prepares an admission rank list for candidates who have successfully registered and paid the application fees. The list is prepared based on the candidate's performance in the qualifying exam. In the case of the BTech programme, the list is prepared based on JEE (Advanced) Examination subject to satisfying the minimum marks prescribed as per the institution's admission body. For PG course, candidates with a valid GATE score and marks obtained in written tests/interviews are selected for admission. Candidates with their name in the admission rank list are required to fill in their choice of branch in order of preference for the UG and Dual Degree Programmes during the time of registration.
Seat allotment and Acceptance round
The institute released the seat allotment/ acceptance rounds on the website. Seat allocations are done based on merit as per the preferences filled in by the candidates. IIST Seats 2026
