Review of MNNIT Allahabad - Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology.

Placements: Placements usually start after the end of the second semester. This year due to COVID 19 pandemic, hardly any companies have approached to the institute, and some of them have come for computer science students. Last year, out of 13 students in EMD, 2 students got PPO in which one got in Tata, and another one is doing an internship in GE. The salary package offered to them is 6 LPA. Earlier that year, no placements used to happen. It is due to the active participation of last year TPR that placement scenario in AMD has started and is liable to increase. Major core recruiting companies are Tata, GE, Mahindra, John Deere, etc. Several coaching institutes and IT jobs are also offered here.

Infrastructure: Our campus infrastructure is good, although a lot of construction work is going on. There are computer centres, auditorium, skill activities centre, seminar building, etc. Our AMD department has well-equipped labs, a seminar room, a meeting room with a projector. There are two computational labs which have got powerful computers, and the facility is available for all the time in running hours. Their internet speed is also pretty good. Almost every classroom has air-conditioners and is well-furnished. The EMD department is very strict with its classes, tests, labs and attendance. The library is also very good, and it has plenty of rooms to sit in. There is a Wi-Fi facility with good internet speed. You can find all types of materials from academic to literature, and newspaper and magazines are also available. The campus has its own gym for boys and girls, two playgrounds, basketball, volleyball, badminton, skating and lawn tennis courts. A lot of sports happen here, like hockey, cricket, athletics, etc. There are two to three canteens. CV Raman hostel is allotted to first-year PG students, and it is the worst hostel in the whole institute. It has accommodation of 2-3 students, but they put 4 students in a room. There are 3 almirahs in each room, so one student has to compromise. There are four beds, four tables and chairs, so the room gets very congested. Apart from this, cleaning staff members visit frequently to sweep rooms and clean washrooms. Wi-Fi facility has recently installed, but earlier there were only LAN connections. Internet speed is good. Hostel accommodation fee is Rs. 12,000. The hostel has on big study room, but there are TV room, TT table, three badminton courts, a park and two canteens. The mess is run by students, and they charge Rs. 20,000 per semester, which I find quite high for just vegetarian meals. Food is good, and they serve breakfast, lunch, evening snack and supper. The CV Raman hostel is not on the campus, and it is half km away, so you have to arrange a bicycle if you don't want to walk to college twice a day during summers.

Faculty: Almost all faculty members are well-learned, well-qualified and knowledgeable, but I find some of them couldn't deliver it up to mark. They are quite helpful. Our engineering mechanics and design course generally deal with solid mechanics which comprises the study of FEM, continuum mechanics, wave propagation (SHM), composite mechanics, plates and shells, computational mathematics, programming, simulation, modelling, etc. The course is very mathematical. The course is fulfilling for any R&D department of industries as all the hardware components of any product requires some level of solid structure design, be it a keyboard or a space shuttle. The whole AMD course is very interdisciplinary, and you get to gain a lot of knowledge if you are interested throughout the course. Apart from placements, students may also pursue a PhD. Some seniors have been selected in some good IITs for their further research.

Other: I find the fee charged is high, so they must reduce it. Placements condition must also be improved.
