RGNUL Patiala Admission 2025: Fees, Selection, Application Process, Eligibility and Courses

The total fee for RGNUL courses is a cumulative of tuition fee, exam fee, and other components. Aspirants can pay the fee at the time of admission to confirm their seat in the university. Below is course-wise fee for RGNUL:

RGNLU offers admission to five years BA LLB and one year LLM programme, based on CLAT score of candidates. The number of seats for both the courses is limited. Below is the intake for BA LLB, LLM and other courses of RGNUL:

The opening or minimum rank required for NLU Patiala is 1141 for BBA LLB and 1167 for LLM for General Category students under Vertical Reservation. CLAT Fifth Provisional Allotment list has been released by the Consortium of National Law Universities (CNLU) for NLU Patiala admission to BBA LLB and LLM courses.

The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) has the following qualifying requirements for the BA LLB (Hons) programme:

The qualifying test (10+2 or equivalent) must have been passed by the candidate with a minimum of 45% overall (80% for SC/ST/OBC candidates). Applicants may also apply if they took the qualifying exam in March or April of 2024 or if they are still expecting their results.

Or else, Applicants need to have obtained a legitimate score on the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). For candidates from Punjab, RGNUL also accepts results from the 12th exams administered by the Indian School Certificate (ISC), Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), and Punjab School Education Board (PSEB).

The shortlisting of candidates will be determined by their qualifying examination marks (for candidates from Punjab, CBSE, and ISC) or CLAT score. A personal interview will be scheduled for the shortlisted candidates. The combined performance in the CLAT/qualifying examination grades and PI will determine the final admission.

The university offers BA LLB course admission based on the CLAT 2024 score. The total number of seats offered through CLAT 2024 are 214 seats. 

For admission to BA LLB (Hons) course at RGNUL candidates have to register through CLAT portal. Registered candidates for CLAT 2024 counselling will be called by RGNUL through five provisional merit lists, each released by the Consortium of CLAT. Candidates, who have been allocated a seat in the provisional lists and applied for revision, should check the status of their seat in the CLAT provisonal lists.

Candidates who qualify for CLAT must pay the fee for their respective courses, which includes components such as Tuition Fee, Examination Fee, Security Deposit, Hostel Charges (if applicable), etc. Other than the course fee, candidates are required to pay a fee for CLAT application fee. For General /OBC /PWD /PIO /OCI /NRI category candidates, the application fee is INR 4,000; for SC /ST /BPL category candidates, the application fee is INR 3,500.

For admission to one-year LLM or five-year LLB at RGNLU Patiala, CLAT test is usually conducted in December. Aspirants of RGNLU Patiala need to appear for the exam in offline pen-paper mode at the allotted test centres.

• The CLAT question paper for undergraduate courses has total 120 passage-based objective-type questions from five subjects - English Language,  CLAT Reasoning,  Legal Reasoning,  Current Affairs including General Knowledge and Quantitative Techniques.
• The CLAT LLM question paper has objective- and subjective-type questions. 

The CLAT First Allotment List 2025 has been released for the BA LLB Hons. course. Considering the RGNUL Patiala CLAT cutoff 2025, the needed rank to get into the institute is 11761 for the ST All India quota. However, the acquired rank is not enough to get shortlisted for the counselling round to get admission to BA LLB Hons. course at RMLNU Lucknow. The NLU Patiala CLAT Cutoff 2026 was released till round 2 for admission to UG and PG level law courses for various categories under the All India quota. 

For the SC AI category, the cutoff for the BA LLB (Hons) course was 9650 in the 2nd round. On the other hand for the LLM course and its variou specialisations, the cutoff was 4093. RGNUL Patiala cutoff 2025 is out for admission to the LLB courses. As per the latest Round 1 seat allotment results, the closing rank for RGNUL Patiala CLAT cutoff 2025 is 1146 for BA LLB Hons. for General category students in the All India quota offered through CLAT 2025 scores followed by CLAT Counselling. Every year, the cut off marks for the CLAT exam are affected due to the following factors:

• The difficulty level of the exam. In case the question paper is easy then the CLAT cut offs are expected to go high and vice-versa.
• Total number of applications received. If the total applications received are less then the cut off is expected to be relaxed. 
• Total candidates qualifying CLAT exam. If the total number of qualifying candidates is less than the total seats then cut off goes low
• Total number of seats. If the total number of seats is revised and increased then cut off is expected to remain low
• Previous year cut offs. For the top NLUs, the cut-off marks in previous years were high, therefore, only topper candidates could make it for final admissions. Fore other NLUs, the cut off marks are relatively low.

Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law Punjab offers UG, PG, and PhD courses to students. These courses are provided across the Law stream. At the UG level, the university offers BA LLB, and other courses to students. At the PG level, the university offers LLM courses to students. RGNUL Patiala also provides PhD and other courses to students.

According to NLU Patiala cutoff 2024 CLAT Round 5 Seat Allotment results, the cutoff for LL.M. in Criminal Law stood at 987 for the General AI category. The CLAT entrance exam results are accepted by the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL) for admission to its BA LLB (Hons) programme. India offers a nationwide entrance exam called CLAT for admission to undergraduate and graduate law programmes. The Consortium of National Law Universities is in charge of it.

The 12th examinations from the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB), the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), and the Indian School Certificate (ISC) are also accepted by RGNUL for candidates from Punjab. Applicants must have received at least 45% (or 40% for SC, ST, and OBC candidates) in their qualifying exam. 

Based on their CLAT score, candidates who have received a legitimate score will be shortlisted. To further assess the candidates, RGNUL may conduct personal interviews (PIs) with those who have been shortlisted if there are more applicants than seats available.

A one-year LL.M. Post Graduation Course in Business Law, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, and International Law is available from the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL). There will be sixty (60) seats available in total for the LL.M. course.

Students in the home state general category are eligible for a specialised rate at the university. For the home state general category students, nine seats will be allotted individually. Students in the SC/ST category will be given 18 seats. Six places are set aside for students belonging to the OBC category.
