B.Tech. in Civil Engineering - Batch of 2024
3.0
Life at NERIST, Arunachal Pradesh.
Placements: Very poor placements; 40/450 students got placed with the highest package of 8 LPA and the lowest of 2.16 LPA. There is no dedicated placement officer and very poor conditions for placement but its getting better, and some new initiatives are being taken to make placements better.
Infrastructure: As the institute is very old, the infrastructure is very old: small classrooms, a lack of technology, no smart classes, no advanced labs, old labs with sufficient technician, lack of types of equipment, etc. But in this regard, new buildings are being constructed and slowly, things are getting better.
Faculty: Some old teachers are very good and helpful but most of them are retiring and no new faculty members are being recruited. Research scholars take classes but they are not that efficient and inexperienced. The curriculum is mostly relevant, with some unusual things. Exams are conducted with the utmost seriousness.

B.Tech. in Civil Engineering - Batch of 2020

It is a good engineering college improving at its phase, that needs few improvements and innovations.
Placements: The placement programme is actually showing progress at our Institute. Last year, a couple of companies visited the campus, of which the most notable ones being the NEEPCO (Papum Pare) and some oil companies from the Assam. Few of our seniors have also got placement in the NEEPCO. The oil companies have chosen some of the seniors. The highest salary was close to six figures with additional company incentives. But the percentage of students placed was not appreciated. In the coming years, we hope to see more companies visiting the campus and more students getting the placement jobs.
Infrastructure: The classrooms and labs are well equipped with the furniture, materials, lighting and other facilities. But 4 out of the 6 boys hostels are a bit old. Also, many of these hostels require some maintenance. Also there are just 2 hostels for girls, one for the PG and another one for the UG. The new girls' hostel is taking additional time to be able to be used for the accomodation fully. The boys dwelling in the 4 old hostels have not been moved to the newly built hostels.
Faculty: The faculty members of the college are well-experienced, knowledgeable and totally supportive of the students. The classes are held regularly as per the academic calendar. There are also separate classes for the lectures and tutorials which are supportive and interactive. Normally a lecture would take a class of around 35 students, but there are some problems with the newly appointed guest lecturers. Some of them are not very good at teaching and also few of them are not at all qualified. This requires some improvement.

B.Tech. in Civil Engineering - Batch of 2019
2.8
The faculty of the college is good.
Placements: The placement is quite good for eligible students, that is 60% minimum for all the semesters, class 10 and 12. For rest of the students, generally they have to go for campus recruitment. The problem is that earlier student used to have for job application due to 2-year diploma + 2-years degree after the 12th standard. Ihas been solved by the authority by merging the two courses and converting it to one single degree module.
Infrastructure: The institute lacks infrastructure wise. Though it is a deemed university, most of the times required amenities are not found. Also, classes are held in a 1986 building with wooden benches which is not standard these days. Studying in digital classrooms or with presentations is non-existent. There are no proper sporting facilities either, the gym that the institute has very less space and equipment when compared with the population of the institute. The students have to use same ground for football and cricket and almost all other sports whose gallery is under construction for 4 years. The hostels are in really bad condition. Newcomers are advised to visit the institute and hostels personally before getting admitted as you'd most probably going to stay 6 long years here.
Faculty: The course curriculum is very obsolete. The base module which when started in 1984 was relevant, but now it has no respectable value. In the civil engineering itself, for example, a certificate level civil engineer is supposed to have knowledge about AutoCAD and Total Station. However, even after having 5 drawing-drafting and 3 surveying courses in 4 semesters. No student has any knowledge about AutoCAD or Total Station because the curriculum is stuck at outdated drawing boards and theodolite. There can be hundreds of similar examples that can be given. Of course, gaining knowledge about old technology is important to grasp the concept, but that doesn't mean new technologies cannot be implemented. But that should not be mistaken as faculty is incompetent. The faculty members in NERIST do best. They work with utmost sincerity and clears all doubts.
Other: The new hostel is though built but, students are not moved to that hostel. The library is the only infrastructure that I can say is maybe at par. Else, not a single thing is at par with the standard that was supposed to be. Security in the hostel is a big joke. Theft from the hostel by outsiders is an everyday issue. Local police are also incompetent. Even with all the hardware-software details, they cannot catch the thief. Good faculty and low-cost engineering(Rs. 20,000 per semester including hostel, mess and tuition fee) is the only reason you should choose NERIST.
