Ranchi University Highlights 2026

1960 was the establishment year of the Ranchi University. It has gained recognition from the UGC. The University is also accredited by the NAAC B++ Grade and is a member of AIU. At present, RU Ranchi has 23 PG departments, 15 constituent colleges, & 49 affiliated colleges, imparting education to students in multiple fields. Ranchi University course admissions are available for UG & PG programmes in streams, including Law, Engineering, Medicine, Psychiatry, and Business Management etc.

Ranchi University admission is offered on the basis of merit and entrance examinations. CUET, CAT, JEE Main, MAT, etc, are a few national-level entrance examinations accepted by the university. Ranchi University Ranchi has fully functional units of NSS & NCC in its colleges. The university also promotes sports and physical fitness by organising inter-university tournaments. Youth festivals are also regularly held at the college and university level. Established on July 12, 1960, Ranchi University started with only 10 PG departments, 1 constituent college and affiliated colleges.
The RU Ranchi Geology Department is known to be selected for the FIRST program of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
Jharkhand University Ranchi offers a series of lectures to honour various scholars across several disciplines, such as Dr. J.C. Bose (Science), Dr. D.C. Munda (Social Science), Dr. Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad (Education) and many more.

Average academics and placements, good for the degree, but requires more practical exposure.

Placements: Around 10-20 percent of students from B.Com got placed. The highest package is approximately 5 LPA, the lowest package is approximately 2.5 LPA, and the average package is around 2 LPA-3 LPA. TCS, Wipro, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Airtel recruit in our college. Around 5-10 percent of students got internships, mostly in TCS, Concentrix, and local firms. Business Development Associate, Customer Support Executive, Sales Executive, and Banking Support roles are offered.

Infrastructure: The facilities and infrastructure for the B.Com department are average. Classrooms are decent and a few have a smart-class setup. Wi-Fi is available on campus but the connectivity is not always reliable. There is no dedicated lab for the commerce department but the library is large and well-equipped with a good collection of books. Regarding hostel facilities, the rooms are basic and maintenance is a bit slow. The mess food is average. Sometimes good but the variety is limited.

Faculty: Most of the teachers are qualified and knowledgeable and they are generally helpful whenever students reach out to them. The teaching style is mostly theory-based and traditional. The teaching quality is decent but not very interactive or industry-oriented. The curriculum covers the required commerce subjects but it is not fully industry-focused. Practical exposure, skill development, and modern industry tools are limited. Semester exams are not very difficult if you attend classes and study the notes provided. The question papers are mostly predictable and theory-based.

Other: I chose B.Com because it provides a strong foundation in commerce, accounting, and business, and it opens up multiple career options like CA, MBA, banking, and finance. I wish the course had more practical learning, live projects, industry exposure, and skill-based training. Internship opportunities, workshops, and modern tools (like Tally, Excel, and analytics) should be included to make the course more industry-oriented. The college hosts a few events and cultural functions during the year and sports activities also happen occasionally. The campus crowd is decent and friendly. Connectivity is good as transportation and local facilities are easily available around the college.

Placements: Around 30-40% of students are placed from the college on campus, and the rest may get placed off-campus. The highest package is 12 LPA, and the lowest package is 1.5 LPA. Wipro, Infosys, and Flipkart are some of the top recruiters of our college. Students find internships on their own. The top role offered in our course is as a developer.

Infrastructure: Infrastructure of our college for the Computer Science and Engineering department is good. Wi-Fi is available on campus, labs are air-conditioned with Wi-Fi support, and classrooms. The library have fans and Wi-Fi. The food quality in the hostel mess is good. The canteen food is also decent.

Faculty: Teachers are helpful, well-qualified, and knowledgeable. The old teachers are the best, and the newcomers are also good but not as experienced. The course curriculum is relevant, but not much practical knowledge is provided. Semester exams are of moderate difficulty.

Other: I chose the Computer Science and Engineering course because I am interested in the software and development field. Our college should focus more on practical knowledge rather than theoretical knowledge. Not many events are organized in our college.

Nearly 70 percent secured internships at HCL, Teach Mahindra, and PwC. Top roles offered are analyst, operations executive, and management trainee.

Dissatisfied with the campus life as well as the late semester.

Placements: The college provides very few placements each year, usually less than 10. Most students get off-campus placements. I don’t think anyone here gets a package over 3 LPA in the entire course. There is no placement department in the college.

Infrastructure: Only one floor is available for students. It has the worst infrastructure I have ever seen. There is a library, but no reading room is available on the college campus. There is no mess or canteen. Few sports equipment are available for very few sports.

Faculty: Faculty of our college is helpful but not effective. The teaching quality is low, and no regular classes are taken. The courses students are getting do not make them industry-ready. The pass percentage of students is almost 70 percent. The exam level is moderate.

Placements: Placement number is not high. You can't rely on the college placement cell. Though, there are number of students who get placed in top companies. The percentage is less. I guess the highest package is around 5 LPA - 6 LPA. The placement cell is really helpful and answers your queries.

Infrastructure: Infrastructure is well-maintained. Labs are amazing. Library is furnished and a good place to study. Many books are also available. Classrooms are very big and spacious. We have smart boards and appealing interior. We have three canteens. All of them provide good food.

Faculty: Faculty members are really helpful. They teach very well. Semester exams are tough yet easy. The exams are conducted on time. They give practical knowledge too. But they can still do better. They add more practical in this course. The management can do better.

Other: I chose this course because accounting is my major and I like accounting. This course is relevant to my dream job. While doing this course, I can do many other things as well. There are various events organised. Many clubs are also there. Better management would be appreciated.

Good for a head start in the higher education journey.

Placements: My college doesn’t provide any placements for this course as it is a Bachelor’s degree. But it provides good knowledge on how to engage in the topic so that we can learn how to do fieldwork. Teachers provide a better understanding so that we can perform fieldwork properly. They guide us on how to deal with problems so that we can apply for jobs outside the college. Sometimes students get internships from statistical-based companies, but mostly the internships are from NSSO.

Infrastructure: Facilities provided by the department include a big, spacious classroom and a computer lab. The college also provides Wi-Fi connections and a library where we can study. There is also a department library from where we can issue books whenever we need them. Teachers help us understand which books are required for the syllabus and semester. I cannot say much about the hostel facilities as they are only provided for boys.

Faculty: Teachers for the course are helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable. They provide a better understanding of all the subjects. The teaching quality is good. The course curriculum is relevant. It provides knowledge of fieldwork and also prepares us for the student industry and the outside world. The semester exams are normal to difficult, but they help us understand the subjects better. The passing percentage of the college is good, as it provides us the facility to clear back papers if needed.

Ranchi University Courses and Fees 2026

Ranchi University offers a range of full-time UG, PG, Diploma, PG Diploma, Certificate and PhD programmes under its 4 faculties in the fields of Social Science, Humanities, Science and Commerce. The duration of all UG programmes can be between 3 to 4 years. On the other hand, PG programmes are offered for a duration of 2 years in full-time mode.

Ranchi University fee structure includes tuition fees from INR 966 to INR 11.8 Lakh. Ranchi University admission is merit and entrance based. Therefore, to qualify for the UG level courses, candidates must secure a minimum aggregate in Class 12.
