In order to get admission to Vel Tech University, there is a selection process that every student needs to qualify. It includes fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria in the first place. Admission to both UG and PG courses at Vel Tech is either merit or entrance-based. Students can also get direct admission through merit-based admission. In order to get admission to BTech, students can get admission through both merit and entrance-based. Aspirants need to fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria in the first place, which is to pass Class 12 with 60% aggregate in the respective subjects or equivalent from any recognised board. Students who get less than 60% aggregate in their previous qualifying exams must qualify for VTUEEE. While those who get more than 60% aggregate will get can direct admission based on their merit performance in their previous qualifying exam. Qualified students also have to fill an online application form on the official website of Vel Tech.

As per unofficial sources, Vel Tech alumni are working in leading national and multinational companies such as Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Oracle, TCS, and brightening up the name of Vel Tech University globally. They work in various sectors such as Engineering, Operations, Business Development, Marketing, Sales and more. Of all the sectors, 37% of alumni work in the Engineering sector. According to the data available, both Vel Tech and S.A. Engineering College offer good placements. Vel Tech Multi Tech Dr. Rangarajan Dr. Sakunthala Engineering College placed 333 out of 361 UG students, according to the NIRF 2023 report. UG students received a median package of INR 4.5 LPA, while PG students received a median package of INR 5.5 LPA. The institute welcomes 540 regular recruiters every year, some of which are, Infosys, Wipro, Reliance, Capgemini, Hyundai Motors, Airtel, Saint-Gobain, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Polaris, etc. On the other hand, S.A. Engineering College, Chennai, also had students placed in top companies like Infosys, Wipro, TCS, IBM, HDFC Bank, etc. Therefore, both colleges offer good placements, and it is difficult to say which one is better.

In order to get admission to BTech at Vel Tech, students are required to fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria. At Vel Tech, students can get admission to BTech in direct mode as well as through an entrance exam. Direct admission to BTech is merit-based, while for entrance-based admission, students are required to qualify for VTUEEE. It is an in-house entrance exam, which is particularly conducted for Engineering.
