Campus Area in MAKAUT

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, abbreviated as MAKAUT, was formerly called the West Bengal University of Technology. The university is a public state university and is situated in Haringhata, Kalyani in the Nadia district of West Bengal. Its main campus was earlier located in Bidhannagar, Kolkata, but was later shifted to its current location, Haringhata, Kalyani. Its main campus spans over an area of approx. 40 acres. It is one of the most reputed public state universities for a variety of disciplines in the state of West Bengal. The university has nearly 200 other colleges and institutes affiliated with it, running under its supervision.

Campus

The campus is spread across a whopping 40 acres of land. The campus area is located in an urban locality and has good connectivity with the cities nearby along with considerable transportation. The university consists of four buildings for academics. They are:

1. Building for Biotechnology
2. Library Building
3. Academic Building
4. Administrative Building

Apart from the buildings for academic purposes, the campus also has four other buildings for the accommodation of students, staff, and the Vice-Chancellor.

Academic Facilities

The university provides various infrastructural facilities for the students to assist them with their studies and academics. It offers a dedicated library building, various labs, and modern classrooms as well.

Labs

The university has a variety of labs to serve the needs of students. The following labs are available at the university campus:

2. Bioinformatics Lab
3. Chemistry Lab
4. Communication and Engineering Lab
5. Computer Lab
6. Electrical Lab
7. Electronic Lab
8. Language Lab
9. Physics Lab
10. Tissue Culture Lab

 Library

A dedicated building is provided for Library facilities. The university's library was established in 2004 and was lacking in terms of the number of books and a proper functioning system. The library building started with a handful of book racks and a few donated books, but over time it saw a huge improvement. Presently, it is fully functioning and has also involved a hybrid method of functioning. The library provides the facility of accessing literature in electronic format as well, along with conventional paperback books. The library holds an enormous collection which comprises a total of 25,695 books including over 10,000 e-books, nearly 6,000 e-journals as well as 20 print journals, of which four are foreign journals. All this literature is accessible through the library’s web interface.

Classrooms

The classrooms of this university are very well maintained by the staff. The classes provide a very clean environment for studies, as well as modern equipment. All the classrooms are well-ventilated and thoroughly air-conditioned. Some of the classrooms are equipped with smart boards for an interactive learning experience, but in general, most of the classes provide the facility of a projector and whiteboard. The classes also have high-speed internet access via the university’s Wi-Fi network.

Co-curricular Facilities

MAKAUT is not only an academic-oriented university but also offers places for recreational activities. The variety of facilities that the university provides are:

• Sports Ground – A ground for football and volleyball is available which can be accessed by the students besides their studies. 
• Indoor Sports – The hostel buildings have specific areas for some indoor games. Mainly, carrom as an indoor game is played by the students in the hostel. Apart from that, facilities for other games like table tennis and pool are also present in the room.
• Sports Equipment – The University provides all the required sports gear and equipment for its students.
• Auditorium – The University has a single auditorium that serves all the needs inside the campus. It is situated on the ground floor of the administrative building. The hall is well-ventilated and air-conditioned. It is also a well-lit place but lacks other modern upgrades at present.

Hostel Facilities

It is very important for an institute to make it possible for its students to be able to study at the university, even if the students live far away from the campus. A hostel is a facility that is essential for colleges and universities. Because of that, MAKAUT also provides hostel facilities inside its campus. MAKAUT provides hostel accommodation for boys, girls, and staff as well. Boys and girls have separate hostel buildings for them. A separate staff hostel building is also present inside the campus.
