CBI raids Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University over affiliation fraud
The four-member CBI team will be filing its report after examining documents pertaining to the case. The team has also summoned eight staffers of the varsty to record their statements.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has raided the offices of the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in Srinagar Garhwal over alleged irregularities in granting affiliation to various private colleges across India.
On September 15, the CBI raided offices of the University and is likely to camp at the varsity for the next few days. The four-member CBI team will be filing its report after examining documents pertaining to the case. The team has also summoned eight staffers of the varsity to record their statements.
The case is related to former Vice-Chancellor J L Kaul and his OSD (Officer on Special Duty) D S Negi who had allegedly awarded the central university’s affiliation to colleges between 2014 and 2016. It was alleged that they provided affiliation to private institutes and colleges in contravention of the rules. Kaul was forced to resign as VC after the irregularities came to light in 2017.
CBI had registered a preliminary enquiry (PE) and later cases were registered against the VC, his OSD, other public servants and six private institutions.
In July as well, the central investigative agency had conducted raids at 14 spots in Dehradun, Srinagar and Noida in connection with the case. During the searches, three bank lockers belonging to the accused were also examined in which documents pertaining to the case were recovered.
Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University is recognised by the UGC and accredited by NAAC with an ‘A’ Grade. HNBGU offers 756 UG, PG, diploma and doctoral courses across 16 streams, 11 schools, 47 departments and two centres (Agriculture and Allied Sciences, Commerce, Earth Science, Arts, Communication and Languages, Law).

HNB Garhwal University is an excellent choice for a budget-friendly BTech in ECE offering solid academics & experienced faculty. As a central university it lacks dedicated on-campus corporate placements for core electronics. It is highly recommended if you are focused on higher studies like the GATE

HNB Garhwal University is a decent, government-run Central University in Uttarakhand.
Pros: It holds prestigious NAAC 'A' grade. Fees are highly affordable making it great for budget-conscious students. The campus environment is beautiful & the professors are well-qualified & helpful.

HNBGU generally does not offer direct admissions for its programmes including MA Psychology. Students have to clear the admission process to get a seat. The university considers CUET PG scores. However, students can connect with the university to know more.
