KSOM Ranks Second in Times BBA Education Ranking Survey 2020

September 3, 2020: KIIT - Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology School of Management has been ranked second in the Times BBA Education Ranking Survey report 2020. The institute was ranked in the category of colleges offering full-time BBA courses in India. The ranks have been evaluated on the basis of three parameters - Desk Research, Factual survey & Perceptual Rating survey. After data collection, a methodical review was conducted to rate and rank the different BBA colleges that participated in the survey.

A hybrid research model involving an objective study and a perceptual study was integrated into the current year's ranking method. While the objective research is carried out to represent what happens, it is also important to understand how the various actors and stakeholders interpret institutes in the perceptual analysis. These two modules together thus lead to a robust ranking process.

KIIT DU Announces Free Education to Wards of Covid Deceased in Odisha

July 26, 2020: With country's Corona meter nearing 15 lakh mark, the economy is going through a hard time. This has made all industries, corporates and most importantly the educational institutions to go under a forced lockdown for the last four months. With institutions trying hard to keep up the pace through online classes, the students aspiring admission in the first year of graduation are left answered because of the financial situation that has been impacted due to the global pandemic.

Amid these difficult times, Odisha based KIIT - Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology Deemed University announces free education for the wards of those who succumbed to the pandemic. The offer has been extended as a support to the Covid-impacted families. The facility is only valid for 2020 admissions and for two academic years 2020-21 and 2021-22. Preference will be given to the children of Covid deceased from reserved categories, including Below-Poverty Line, Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe categories, among others.

KIIT at the Frontline of Odisha’s War Against Coronavirus

July 18, 2020: Driven by the moral values and ethics of Professor Achyuta Samanta, KIIT - Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences have been proactively engaged in helping the victims of natural calamities. This year, since the outbreak of Coronavirus, the institutes have been actively engaged in helping migrants to reach their homes safely, touching lives of the patients, people living in containment areas and starving animals.

Initiatives taken by the institutes amid the pandemic:

  • Even before the first Covid case was reported in the country, the institutes held a guest lecture on February 1 on topic ‘Corona Virus - A Global Threat’, which discussed standard infection control strategies in order to prevent the propagation of Coronavirus.
  • Timely arrangements to send all students back home safely were made. KIIT and KIIS both have over 30,000 students each from all parts of India and other countries.
  • Transition to the online curriculum for all the students was conducted through Zoom. If the pandemic continues for longer, the institutes have all the arrangements to conduct online examinations.
  • As KISS is the world’s largest fully-free fully-residential institute exclusively for tribal students, the Institute has initiated e-learning classes for students through Kalinga TV.
  • KISS has launched an awareness programme named ‘Project Uday’ that aims at creating awareness among people on the importance of social distancing, use of masks, hand and respiratory hygiene in six districts of Odisha. Over 500 people have volunteered and are covering more than 220 villages.
  • Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences has volunteered to be India’s first ultramodern Covid care facility with over 500 beds, including 50 critical care beds.
  • With the help of the district administration concerned, KIIT has built three 200 bedded COVID-19 Hospitals each in the districts of Kandhamal, Balangir, and Mayurbhanj. In addition to Covid Hospital, and KISS supply food and cash for various expenses to more than 40 orphanages in the Kandhamal district, aged homes and leprosy centres.
  • Both the institutes have supplied essential food items such as Flour, rice, pulses and cooking oils in the first month of the nationwide lockdown to over 40,000 people in the slums of Bhubneshwar. And, have also provided cooked meals to over 2,000 police personnel in Puri and Cuttack to honour their work.

KIIT Researchers Develop Cement-Less Green Construction Material

June 19, 2020: Recently, the KIIT - Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology researchers carried out the experiments with novel road construction material on a pilot basis in a Cuttack district near village Amanapada in the first week of June 2020. Without cement and only using industrial waste, the innovative Green Concrete Road was built. KIIT researchers believe that the latest technology that does not contribute to global warming could lead to an improvement of engineering systems.

In addition to the automobile, the cement industry contributes nearly 6 per cent of all CO2 emissions. In 25-50 years, rising cement demand will lead to a serious scarcity of limestone material, the principal raw material.

Fly ash (FA), an industrial waste product, is simply spilled over a large area on the earth. An alternative binder such as geopolymer concrete is therefore an emerging alternative building material to conventional cement. Fly ash is a rich source of silica and alumina that reacts to a solution alkaline to produce alumina silicate gel that binds fine and ground aggregates into a good concrete mode.

Mechanical and toughness properties of geo-polymer concrete built on fly-ash are identical to regular concrete. The longevity and repair quality of cement is much better than average.

The idea involved technical support, supervision and quality check efforts of Associate Professor Dillip Kumar Bera and Former Professor of KIIT Ashoke Kumat Rath. All tests were carried out at the KIIT laboratory before implementation
