What is SET?

Symbiosis Entrance Test or SET exam is a University level exam conducted for admission to BBA, BCA ans other UG programmes offered by Symbiosis International (Deemed University) campuses. Nearly 50,000 candidates appear for the SET exam for about 700 seats in 15 SIU constituent institute. It is an MCQ based exam in which candidates have to get high scores to be selected for the next round of SIU admisison.

Q:   Can I appear for the SET exam more than once?
A: 

Yes, the students can appear for the SET exam more than once. During the SET registration process, candidates are asked if they wish to appear for the first session, the second session or both the sessions. Candidates can choose as per their convenience and mark the checkbox in front of the test date. The SET exam 2026 will be conducted in the second week of May 2026, tentatively, in the computer-based test mode. Having said that, students applying for the SET exam must make sure they fulfil the eligiblity criteria and age requirement for the SET exam. 

Q:   When will SET application form 2026 release?
A: 

SET application process 2026 has started on December 12, 2025. The application window for the Symbiosis SET exam is open for approximately four months. The SET registration 2026 last date was April 15, 2026.

The SET exam application schedule is announced online. The SET exam application process begins with filling out the SET exam application form and proceeding to the fee payment. Candidates need to submit their SET application form 2026 before the deadline. Candidates have to choose the their preferred institutes they wish to apply for admissions through the SET exam score at the time of registration. Candidates are eligible for admission to only those institutes that they had selected in the SET application form.

Generally, the conducting authority announces the commencement of the registration process through a detailed notification that includes important dates, eligibility criteria, exam pattern, and other relevant information. The notification is usually released well in advance to allow candidates sufficient time to complete the registration process.

Q:   Do the Symbiosis colleges accept Class 12 marks for BBA admission?
A: 

To get BBA admissions to the prestigious Symbiosis colleges, students need to appear for the SET exam. Candidates should however, must have completed Class 12 from a recognised board with a minimum of 50% aggregate. Candidates in Class 12 or awaiting their Class 12 board results are also eligible to apply but they will have to submit a passing certificate. 

Therefore, the Symbiosis colleges grant admission to the BBA course through SET exam, but Class 12 marks are equally important as it is one of the most important eligiblity criteria.

How to Apply for SET 2026 Exam?

SET application window was open from December 12, 2025 to April 16, 2026. Check SET 2026 registration process below:

  • Visit SET exam website, i.e. set-test.org
  • Click on rew regisrtration and add basic details to create an ID
  • Students will then receive an email and SMS containing their SET ID and Password
  • Pay application fee of INR 2250 as per the instructions
  • Enter academic and personal details 
  • Choose test city, institute, and upload documents 
  • Pay INR 1000 as the institute fee and take a print of the SET application form

The SET counselling is conducted in online as well as offline mode. Candidates who have qualified the SET exam must register themselves online through the official website for the SET counselling procedure. However, the Personal Interview, Written Ability Test and document verification round under the counselling process is held offline at the designated centres. Candidates who have met the SET cutoff, need to visit the centre for document verification as per their rank and other selection rounds such as PI and WAT. The counselling rounds of SET exam 2026 include a Written Ability Test and a Personal Interview. Students need to fill the registration form for the participating Symbiosis Institutes after the announcement of results and cut-off marks.

During the SET registration process, candidates need to select their SET exam centre. The candidates can choose upto three SET exam centres  for the SET exam centre allotment. Candidates should choose the test centres in the order of their preference, as they cannot be changed after the SET exam application form submission. Follow the steps mentioned below to know how to select the SET exam centre:

  • Register on the official website of SET.
  • Login to the candidate portal and fill the rest of the SET application form

The SET mock test will be available online on the official website of SET. The mode of conduction will be the same as the actual SET exam. Candidates who have successfully registered for the SET exam and paid the application fee can take the mock test once they have downloaded the SET admit card. The mock test will be conducted to familiarize the students with the exam pattern and prepare the students with the time-based exam and help them tackle the time limit. Students must login at least ten minutes prior to take the mock exam. To login, students can use their User ID and Password which they received on the registered email ID.

No, after the SET exam is cleared, candidates had to go through for further selection procedure conducted by the participating institutes. The SET scores are accepted by the ten prestigious institutes of the Symbiosis International (Deemed University). Candidates need to meet the cutoff criteria of the participating institutes to take admissions. The admission process included Written Ability Test (What), Group Discussion (GD), and Personal Interview (PI). Other factors such as academic record, work experience, etc. were also considered for admission to various institutes which accept SET scores. SET score is only the first parameter on which the candidates are shortlisted for admission. The institutes first shortlist the candidates for What, GD and PI on the basis of their SET scores, marks obtained in Class 10 and Class 12. For the final selection, the institutes take SET scores, performance in GD/PI, What, Class 10 and Class 12 marks, work experience, academic diversity and gender diversity into consideration.

On the SET exam day, students have to follow certain guidelines which include reaching on time, cooperating with the exam centre staff, following instructions of the test invigilator and following the test navigation for solving the SET questions.

Q:   How many questions do I have to answer in the SET exam?
A: 

SET exam consists of 60 multiple-choice questions. Each question carries one mark, and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers. Candidates should however be cautious while answering the questions as accuracy is key a player in scoring well in the SET exam. Practicing previous years' papers can help in understanding the question pattern and managing time effectively.

Since there are no optional questions in the SET exam, all 60 MCQs are compulsory. 

Q:   What all items can I carry to the SET exam centre?
A: 

Every candidate must carry a blue/black ball point pen and a two copies of their passport size photo to the exam centre. They must not carry any stationary item other than the pen. Ever since the COVID-19 outbreak, SET candidates are required to carry drinking water, hand sanitizer, face mask and gloves along with them. Candidates have to carry drinking water in a transparent bottle. No other item will be allowed inside the exam venue. Candidates must not carry bags or valuables as there will be no arrangement for depositing while candidates appear for the exam. Candidates must also not carry notebooks or rough paper to the SET exam centre. Any candidate found with an unauthorised item will be disqualified.

Q:   How to avoid mistakes in the SET exam?

  1. Allocate time to each section and give priority to easier ones
  2. Do not avoid SET mock test. 
  3. Learn concepts, practice and revise to increase chances of scoring well. 
  4. Prepare for each section separately and prepare accordingly. Know the weaknesses and strengths and do a balanced preparation.
Q:   What should be my SET exam preparation strategy?
A: 

The SET BBA question paper is divided into four sections, I. e. General English Quantitative Aptitude Logical Reasoning and General Awareness. SET exam is conducted for one hour in CBT mode. Going through the past year question papers will give an idea about what to expect and an insight into the difficulty level. To prepare for the General English section, read and practice a lot of comprehension passages, and work on vocabulary and grammar. For the General Awareness section, read newspapers and magazines to know the Current Affairs, the latest trends, history, and geography. You can also refer to books for static GK. For SET preparation, go through at least the previous five years papers to get used to the paper pattern and understand the difficulty level. The next step would be to capitalise on strengths and work on weaknesses. 

Q:   Who can apply for SET exam?
A: 
Candidates who have completed their Class 12 or equivalent exam from a recognised board with at least 50 per cent aggregate are eligible to apply for SET exam. There is no age limit to appear for the exam. Candidates in the Class 12 or are awaiting the Class 12 results can also apply provisionally and present the marksheet at the time of admission. The candidate who has completed class 12 or equivalent from a foreign board and must have obtained an equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) is eligible.
Q:   How many times is SET conducted in a year?

Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) is a national-level entrance exam which is conducted only once a year. The exam is usually conducted in the computer-based test mode in about 80 test cities across the country. This year, the SET exam 2026 was conducted on May 2 and May 10. The students who wish to appear for SET exam had to apply online by filling the SET application form.

Q:   Does SET exam have advanced level topics?

Syllabus in SET exam is based on Class 12 and students need not study advanced topics beyond Class 12. SET syllabus assesses knowledge of students and skills at Class 12 level.

SET 2027 exam will likely be held in the second week of May 2027. SET exam will be conducted in CBT test format by Symbiosis International University. Duration of exam will be one hour and students can take exam at their test centre.
