Q:   What is the difficulty level of SET (Symbiosis Entrance Test)?

A:

SET is a national-level entrance exam conducted for admission to various undergraduate courses. SET 2024 will be conducted in the computer-based test mode. The difficulty level of the SET exam is usually easy to moderate. But, a few questions might trick your mind and can be time-consuming. General Knowledge and Analytical and Logical Reasoning are easier than the Quantitative Aptitude section. In 2023, according to the students who appeared for the SET session 1 exam, the SET exam was easy to moderate. The General English section was the easiest of all the four sections. The Quantitative Aptitude section was the toughest and the other two sections were moderate. The overall difficulty level of the SET question paper was moderate. Students who appeared for the SET 2023 session 2 exam said that the overall difficulty level was easy. Again, the General English section was the easiest. In this session, the Analytical and Logical Reasoning section was also easy. The Quant section was difficult and the General Knowledge section was moderate.

Q:   How should I prepare for the SET exam?

A:
Cracking an exam is not a cakewalk, and it is not easy to grab a seat in one of the most prestigious private varsities, such as Symbiosis. You need to have a really strong strategy to crack this exam. Be versed with your syllabus Knowing the syllabus for the entrance exam is the first step towards SET preparation. Dividing the time for your exam is only possible if you are thorough with the syllabus. Therefore, you can analyse the area of your strength and then allocate the time required for each section. Understand the exam pattern Going through the previous year question papers and sample papers helps you figure out the exam pattern. Once you become familiar with the type of questions, you will take lesser time to solve questions. There will be clarity in your mind regarding how to crack the SET exam. Time management You have limited time to attempt 4 sections and 60 questions overall. You don't get the time to ponder which section you will attempt or the questions you want to opt-out or attempt last. Therefore knowing the exam pattern adds to your skill of solving the exam faster. Prepare Short Notes Remembering and revising before the exam is crucial for students to perform well. This can be done by preparing short notes. Going through them just a day before the exam will ensure that you remember all that you have prepared, which will boost your confidence in attempting the exam. Practice No exam can be cleared sans practice. Its the most important key for qualifying any exam you want. All the hard work you have put in during months for SET is futile, lest you have practiced sufficiently and are confident about making it to your chosen college and the course.

SET 2024 Selection Process

The counselling process through SET will likely begin in the month of May 2024 in various colleges accepting SET scores. Candidates who appear for SET 2024 will be required to apply to various SET accepting colleges during the application process. The counselling rounds of the SET exam 2024 will include a Written Ability Test and a Personal Interview. Candidates will be required to fill out the registration form for the participating Symbiosis Institutes after the announcement of results and cut-off marks.

  • Selection of students: Students will be selected and called for further admission process on the basis of the scores obtained by them in the SET exam. Students will be intimidated about the SET cutoff and they will be able to check if they met the cutoff criteria.
  • Written Ability Test and Personal Interview: The WAT and PI schedule will be announced by the individual institutes. Students can appear for the WAT/PI at the allotted venue and they will be judged on various criteria such as general awareness, extracurricular activities, academics and candidate-specific fields of interest, communication skills and overall personality.
  • Final selection: Each candidate will be evaluated on the basis of their SET 2024 score, WAT/PI performance, academic history and other parameters for preparing the final merit list. Selected applicants will be called to complete the admission formalities.

Q:   Will there be GD/PI round for admission to SIU institutes or the SET exam score is the only criteria for admission?

A:
Yes, after SET results are announced, a Personal Interview round will be conducted by the SIU institutes which accept SET scores for admission to the undergraduate courses offered by them. The counseling schedule will be available on the official website of each institute. In 2021, the What round was conducted on the SET exam day. Candidates were given 30 minutes for What.

Q:   How is the final SET score calculated?

A:

SET score is determined on the basis of correct answers marked by aspirants in the SET exam. For each correct answer, candidates are awarded one mark. For an incorrect answer, there is no negative marking. And also no marks will be awarded or deducted for unaswered questions. Candidates who match the SET cutoff criteria are further called for the Personal Interview round.

Therefore, the total marks of SET is 60. The sectional marking scheme for SET is given below:

  1. General English: 16
  2. Analytical and Logical Reasoning: 12
  3. Quantitative Ability: 16
  4. General Knowledge: 16

Candidates must choose the questions to solve very carefully and smartly as they will not be awarded marks for incorrect answers. If they are not sure of the correct answer, they should leave the question instead of taking a chance.

Q:   How can I prepare for the subsequent rounds of the SET admission process?

A:

SET results will be announced on May 22, 2024. The exam results will be announced within approximately three weeks of the SET exam. If you meet the SET cutoff, candidates need to prepare for the further admission process which includes WAT and PI. To prepare for the Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI), you should focus on improving your communication skills, general knowledge, and awareness of current affairs. It's also advisable to practice answering commonly asked interview questions and participate in mock interviews.

Going through the previous years' papers will give you an idea about what to expect and an insight into the difficulty level of the exam. To prepare for the General English section, read and practice a lot of comprehension passages, and work on vocabulary and grammar. For the General Awareness section, read newspapers and magazines to stay updated with Current Affairs the latest trends, history, and geography. You can also refer to reference books for static GK. For SET preparation, go through at least the previous five years' question papers to get used to the exam pattern and understand the difficulty level. The next step would be to capitalise on your strengths and work on your weaknesses. While giving the exam, focus on the sections that you are best prepared for.
