IIM Trichy’s new permanent campus inaugurated

The Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli’s new campus was inaugurated on Monday by union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar.
The new campus is located at Chinna Suriyur village along Trichy-Pudukkottai Road. The new campus has been under construction since past 30 months and it will be made available for class by June. The campus will have separate hostels for about 400 male and female students. Staff quarters, recreation club, artificial pond and an oval-shaped three-storey library are also planned.
At the inauguration, the members were taken on a virtual tour of the campus, including the Harvard-style classrooms with the solar panels installed for energy conservation.
HRD Minister, who participated in the proceedings via video conferencing from New Delhi, congratulated the institute members on the new campus and urged all the IIMs to act independently as they have been granted more autonomy.
He asserted that the institutes will be granted complete autonomy soon and exuded confidence that the new IIM Bill will be cleared in the Parliament next week. After the bill is cleared, the institutes will be able to grant degrees instead of post graduate diplomas. They won’t have to seek assistance/permission from MHRD related to functioning. Mr Javadekar asked the IIMs to draw their own five-year plan and go ahead with them.
“The IIM bill will be passed in the Parliament session and all the courses offered here will be world-class degrees. The campus has also been sanctioned Rs 772 crore, which is a revised estimate,” he said.
The function was attended by Prafulla Agnihotri, Director, IIM, Tirchy, and faculty members.

IIM Trichy has good summer placement record. More than 150 companies visited the campus during the summer placement drive 2025. The overall the highest stipend recorded during the summer placement drive 2025 was INR 3.5 lakh. The median stipend recorded was between INR 0.7 Lacs to 1.4 lakh.
