Mystory@Sandeep Chatterjee: How I chose my course and career

1 min readUpdated on May 11, 2017 17:53 IST

I was very clear that I did not want to study Medicine. So Biology was ruled out. I was always fascinated by machines and my grasp on Mechanics ruled in favor of Mechanical Engineering. I did not want to do Graduation in Science as the career prospects were not good. I enjoyed Physics and Chemistry but was a little weak in Mathematics. If given a chance again, I would spend more time on Social Sciences, Arts and Literature because these disciplines have become more handy when it comes to Managerial Science.

Having come out of a premier college I had that arrogance which was grossly wrong.

Having chosen a career in Mechanical Engineering, I was very clear that I wanted to take up a job in this field and hence Tata Motors was the logical choice. Having said that, I realized that the job became a little routine and I needed to do something different. There are people who are very good in routine jobs and it is actually very good but I knew that I was not cut out for that. So, Management was the next logical move. I completed my MBA at the time of recession and hence choosing a cement company was not the ideal choice. Having come out of a premier college I had that arrogance which was grossly wrong. I may be an MBA but we all have to go through the grind. Every MBA's coveted job is consulting so I tried my hand at it at Infosys though in technology consulting. I was late in the game for IT. Oracle was a good choice and then the next logical break was KPMG. Consulting gives you the variety but the frustrating part is that you recommend but cannot decide.

Yes, an EWS certificate can potentially help you get admission to B.Tech ECE at IIEST. With an EWS rank of 6918 and 96.7 percentile in JEE Mains, you have a good chance of getting into IIEST Shibpur, especially for ECE, though it may depend on the specific cutoffs for that year. Your 96.7 percentile
