Public policy, in the context of governance through law, has an enhanced role in the changing socio-political scenario. Mr. Alok stressed that instead of turning it into a narrow specialisation that brings about an exclusive barrier to entry, a Masters in Public Policy is actually an interdisciplinary field that integrates students' previous knowledge base with newly acquired administrative competencies. Public policy is no longer a privileged profession like medicine or law, where strict licensing limits the number of participants rather it functions as a democratized space which opens the door to both professionals and lay persons.

"Master of Public Policy programme provides students with the necessary analytical, research, and leadership capabilities that can be used in formulating good policies. We prepare our students to deal with complex issues in the public sector from various angles by integrating law, economics, and social sciences, " said Prof. Vinay Kumar A, Pro-Vice Chancellor, SRMIST, in his presidential address.

The ceremony was also attended by Dr. K. S. Lakshmi, Director of Admissions, SRMIST and Prof. Sree Sudha, Dean of SRM School of Law, along with Dr. Sumana Vedanth, Associate Professor, who worked as the programme coordinator with the students.

Master of Public Policy (MPP) programme has a strong inter-disciplinary curriculum that merges law, economics, and the social sciences to unravel the challenges of contemporary governance.

The course, with a strong focus on practical skill development, concentrates on empowering students with competence in data-driven research, thorough policy analysis, and strategic leadership. The graduates, who have acquired these vital skills, are well-prepared to embark on a variety of impactful career paths in policy research institutions, the development sector, and top-tier government advisory bodies.

SRMIST insists on its commitment to creating leaders and transformers who are capable of handling the complexities of public governance through introducing this MPP programme. The event, hence, concluded with a lively discussion about how the development sector is changing and needs more policy professionals.
