At the undergraduate level, Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University offers BSc, BA, and other courses to students. The university also provides PhD courses to students. Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University Ranchi offers 29 traditional and regular PG and UG courses to students, alongside 12 PG and 4 certificate programmes in Vocational Studies. 

Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University also known as Ranchi college, is a state University. University offers more than 39 courses in different streams such as Humanities and science. University provides Various UG, PG, PHD, Diploma and vocational courses. It have BA Honours and MA in Anthropology, History, Political science, English, Geography etc. B.Sc. Honours and M.Sc.in Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics etc. B.Sc vocational courses in computer application, Electronics, environmental Science etc. It also provides BBA, B.Ed, LL.M, MBA courses as vocational courses.University also have Ph.D courses in some subjects like Anthropology, Environmental science, Geography, Political Science etc. University also have various Diploma and Certificate courses.

The Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University is a government university. It was established in 1926 as a Government Intermediate College and  it was upgraded to a state university in 2017. It offers scholarships and financial aid to students from economically backward backgrounds.  It is one of the oldest government college in Ranchi with a very low fees. It offers in total 39 courses across 6 streams. This college also has 149 total faculty members.
