IIT Kharagpur offers a two-year LLM programme via Rajiv Gandhi School of Intellectual Property Law. The school, currently, offers Intellectual Property Rights specialisations but may expand to other specialisations, such as International Law and others in the future. Workshops, clinical legal courses, and courtroom exercises provide the students with in-house training in practical aspects during their course perusal. Moreover, a wide range of electives and a breadth of subjects are offered here to provide students with greater insights into different areas.
Students seeking admission to LLM at IIT KGP must have the following:
Eligibility:
- First-class (or equivalent) in LLB/ BL (five years) programme from any recognised university
- First-class (or equivalent) in LLB/ BL (three years) program from any recognised university along with a bachelor's degree (not less than three years) in Humanities/ Science/ Commerce or equivalent
- If the degree awarding institute does not explicitly mention first-class, then the eligibility will be a minimum of 60% aggregate or a CGPA of 6.5 on 10 point scale
- Students pursuing LLB (Hons) in Intellectual Property Law from the IIT Kharagpur in the academic year 2021-22 with a final CGPA of 8.5 or above are eligible for admission in LLM programme without appearing in the entrance test
Selection: The LLM entrance test at IIT KGP consists of two stages, i.e. the Computer Based Test (CBT) and the Personal Interview (PI).
More details about the LLM entrance are as follows:
- There will be multiple choice-based questions from the Bar Council-approved LLB syllabus
- There is no negative marking.
- To get shortlisted for the second round i.e. PI, it is mandatory to obtain a minimum of 35% aggregate in each of part-I and part II of CBT
- Only shortlisted candidates who qualify for CBT will be called for PI
- For final selection, PI is compulsory
- The final merit list is based on 70% weightage of CBT and 30% weightage of PI round.
