What are the JEE Mains 2026 Photo & Signature Guidelines?

NTA specifies the JEE Main photo and signature guidelines 2026 through its official notification on the website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. Applicants have to adhere to the guidelines for JEE Main document upload. The exam authority uses the photograph and signature uploaded during the registration stage to generate the JEE Main admit card. Candidates will not be able to appear for the exam in case of a mismatch in the candidate's photograph on the day of the exam. This makes it crucial to upload the right image in the right specifications. 

JEE Main Photo Guidelines 2026

Candidates can view the JEE Mains 2026 photo guidelines below. The JEE Main photograph guidelines include details on the background, face frame and size specifications. There is no JEE Main photo size in pixels. However, there is a file size limit.

  • Candidates must upload a recent, coloured passport-size photograph
  • 80% has to the face that is clearly visible, including ears.
  • The applicant's photograph has to be against a white background.
  • Students must save the file name as ‘Photograph’
  • The acceptable format is JPG/JPEG only

The JEE Main 2026 exam date session 2 is April 2 to 9. The JEE Main 2026 application form has been released on October 31, 2025 and the last date to apply is November 27. Q:   Will there be any break in JEE Main 2026 exam?

The total duration of JEE Main exam is 3 hours and the exam is conducted continuous without any break. Candidates have to enter the exam hall as per the scheduled time and can leave exam hall only after the completion of paper. The exam will have a total of 75 questions from 3 subjects, Physics Chemistry and Mathematics.

JEE Mains 2026 Signature Guidelines

Another mandatory document to be uploaded is the candidate’s signature. NTA specifies the JEE Mains signature guidelines too. The authority will also mention the JEE Main signature size specifications. The signature file will be accepted only if it meets the JEE Main signature size in pixels limits specified by NTA. To upload the JEE Main signature pdf, candidates must ensure the following: 

  • The candidate must sign on a white sheet with either black or blue ink
  • Signature should be clearly legible
  • The signature file should be named 'Signature' 
  • The only accepted format for JEE Main signature upload is JPG/JPEG 
  • The signature file has to be between 10 kb to 100 kb.
Q:   Are calculators allowed inside exam centre in JEE Main exam?
A:

Students are not allowed to carry calculators inside the exam centre in JEE Main exam. Students can use the virtual calculator available on the screen during the exam. Virtual calculators will be available on the computer screen of students during the JEE Main exam.

Q:   Which subject was the toughest in JEE Main 2nd April 2025 shift 1 exam?
A:

The difficulty level of JEE Main 2025 April 2 shift 1 exam will be available after the exam concludes. Shiksha will provide the difficulty level and JEE Main paper analysis, students reaction based on feedback from students who are appearing in the exam.

Q:   When will NTA release JEE Main exam city slip 2026?
A:

JEE Main city intimation slip 2026 will be available on the NTA official website jeemain.nta.ac.in tentatively in the third week of January for the session 1 exam. JEE Mains City slip have details about the JEE Main exam city in which the candidate is allotted the centre to appear in the exam and the date of exam. It helps candidates to plan their travel to the JEE Main exam centre in advance. JEE Main city intimation slip is different from the admit card.

How to upload the JEE Main Photo and Signature?

Candidates have to upload JEE Mains photo and signature on the portal itself. To do this, applicants just need to click on the 'upload file' tab and select their file. The system will verify the uploaded image and confirm the acceptance with a green mark. If not, then the file will not be uploaded and the system will display an error message in red colour.

How to upload JEE Main registration documents?

  • Do not upload a blurry or filtered/edited photo
  • The Candidate has to upload only his/ her photograph, signature, and certificates (and not of anybody else
  • In case it is found at any time in the future that the applicant has used/uploaded someone else’s photograph, signature, or certificates or he/she has tampered his/her application form/admit card/result/scorecard, then they will be put under the ‘Unfair Means’ category. 
  • Such candidates will be dealt with according to the provisions as deemed fit by the authorities.
  • In case of any discrepancy in the particulars of the candidate or his/her photograph and signature shown in the e-Admit Card and Confirmation Page, the candidate may immediately approach the NTA Help Line.
  • In this case, the candidate would appear in the examination with the already downloaded Admit Card. However, NTA will take necessary action to make corrections in the record later. 

JEE Main 2026 Photo Correction Window

As per the JEE Main brochure, the candidates cannot change their photograph once they submit the form. Even the rules and guidelines of the JEE Main application form correction specify that candidates cannot change the JEE Main photograph during the form correction period. However, the candidate’s signature can be re-uploaded during the form correction in case it is required. 

Students need not panic. If you feel the need to change the JEE Main photograph after submitting the form, then you must wait for the JEE Main photo correction. The authorities will open the JEE Main photo correction facility for a limited time to re-upload the candidates' photographs. Candidates must wait for the photo correction before starting to fill out a new JEE Main application form in case of any errors. Filling up multiple JEE Mains application forms will also be considered an unfair means practice and will be dealt with seriously.
