Sports Management Admission Test (SMAT) syllabus is prescribed by IISM. The topics included in the SMAT syllabus are specially designed to cater to a specific domain – sports management. The SMAT focuses on the candidate’s liking and awareness of the sports industry and their acumen for the business side of sports. Read below all about SMAT 2025 syllabus:

Q:   Who can apply for Sports Management Admission Test or SMAT exam?
A: 

A candidate who has a keen interest in Sports Management can apply for SMAT for admission to UG or PG courses of their choice.

  • Eligibility criteria for UG courses is Class XII pass with a minimum aggregate of 50% for Open Category & 45% for reserved category in all the subjects.
  • Eligibility criteria for UG courses is Graduation with a minimum aggregate of 50% for Open Category & 45% for reserved category in all the subjects.
Q:   What is the admission process of the SMAT Exam?
A: 

The selection process of SMAT involves clearing both the SMAT and the personal interview round. The weightage for SMAT and PI is 80% and 20 % respectively. Candidates with above 65 percentile in CAT 2021, 22/ NMAT 2021, 22/ XAT 2022, 23/ Valid GMAT (2019 onwards) are eligible directly for the personal interview round.

The admission process for the SMAT Exam consists of three stages:

 

Stage 1:

SMAT (Sports Management Admission Test): The first stage of the admission process is the SMAT, which is an online entrance test conducted by the International Institute of Sports Management (IISM). The test is designed to assess the candidate's aptitude in Mathematics and English, as well as their knowledge and interest in the sports industry. It includes sports-related questions and covers various aspects of the sporting ecosystem. The SMAT carries a weightage of 30% for sports-related questions.

 

Stage 2:

Panel Interview: After clearing the SMAT, candidates proceed to the second stage, which is a panel interview. This interview allows the institute to evaluate the candidate's suitability for a career in sports management. It assesses their understanding of the sports industry, their passion for sports, and their business acumen. The panel interview is an important step in the selection process.

 

Stage 3:

Letter of Selection: The final stage of the admission process is the issuance of the Letter of Selection. Candidates who successfully clear the SMAT and panel interview will receive a Letter of Selection from the International Institute of Sports Management. This letter confirms their admission into the sports management program.

 

It is important to note that the SMAT Exam is conducted online, allowing candidates to take the test from the comfort of their homes. The exam dates, registration deadlines, and other important details are provided by the International Institute of Sports Management (IISM).

SMAT syllabus: Highlights

Aspirants will be tested on their aptitude in Mathematics and English along their interest and knowledge about the sporting ecosystem. In SMAT, there is 30 per cent weightage for sports-related questions. Candidates are advised that despite the exam focuses on sports awareness, it is not solely based on records or sports celebrities. It takes into consideration every aspect of the sporting ecosystem. Thus, students are expected to have knowledge of sports industry as a whole.

Admission to BSM at IISM is conducted in two stages. As per the first stage, students need to write an essay on the given topic. Along with that, aspirants also need to qualify for SMAT entrance exam, which is an in-house entrance exam of the college itself. The final selection is based on the scores of the essay, SMAT, along with the performance of candidates in the PI round and the overall performance of candidates.

Q:   How can I get admission to MSM at IISM?
A: 

 IISM offers MSM, which is a two-year full-time course. Candidates must have a valid score in SMAT. Those who apply through valid scores of MAH CET are not required to appear for SMAT. Apart from that, students also have to write SOP and appear in the Personal Interview (PI) rounds.
