What is SMAT?
The International Institute of Sports Management conducts SMAT – Sports Management Admission Test for selecting candidates for admission in undergraduate, postgraduate and postgraduate diploma programmes. The test is specially designed to cater to a very specific domain, i.e. sports management. SMAT focuses on candidate’s liking and awareness towards the sports industry as well as their acumen for the business aspect of sports as a commercial prospect and an industry. SMAT is specially designed for students from any educational and geographical background, who have a keen interest in sports and have the desire to make a career in sports management.

SMAT is conducted multiple times in a year. It is conducted every month and the monthly schedule is released at IISM website. Candidates can choose to appear for SMAT in the month of their choice and when they are completely prepared for the test.
Yes, SMAT is a mandatory entrance test. Master of Sports Management, PGP in Sports and Wellness Management & PGP in Sports Event Management aspirants can apply with their MAH-CET scores. Such candidates will not have to appear for SMAT.
SMAT application forms are released online at the IISM website. Candidates need to fill the application form by registering on the IISM website and creating a login ID. Since, the SMAT is conducted every month, the registration window also opens every month for that particular exam session. Currently, the registration window for February phase exam is open. - Bachelor's Degree in Sports Management (BSM)
A Bachelor of Sports Management (BSM) is a full-time three-year course which is in collaboration with the University of Mumbai. A bachelor’s course focuses solely on management and coaching. The other aspects of management are related to administrative tasks, planning, organizing, managing and operating for various types of sporting ventures. It also teaches you about the business aspects of sports including sports systems and organizations finance, promotion, management, law and other relevant areas.
- Master's Degree in Sports Management (MSM)
A Master of Sports Management (MSM) is a full-time two-year course in collaboration with the University of Mumbai. MSM aims at developing world-class leaders who can handle and manage their roles with an understanding of the practices, strategies and the fundamentals of the sporting ecosystem and the scopes in the related sector by instilling the necessary business and leadership skills.
- Post Graduate Program In Sports and Wellness Management
IISM’s Post Graduate Program in Sports and Wellness Management is an 11-month autonomous sports management program that provides students with an overview of the sport management industry and how the sport is delivered in India by providing a strong foundation in understanding the sports business combined with the unique knowledge and skills required by sport managers.
- Post Graduate Program in Sports Event Management
The Post Graduate Program (PGP) in Sports Event Management is of 11 months and an autonomous program. The sports event management program is a uniquely designed program developed by industry and international sport management experts.

SMAT fee is INR 1,800. Candidates have to pay it in online mode at the time of application submission. For every attempt, candidates need to register afresh and pay the application fee. Candidates must also note that the fee is non refundable.
Candidates who have a keen interest in Sports Management can apply for SMAT. Minimum eligibility criteria is:
- UG courses: Class 12 pass with at least 40% or equivalent.
- PG courses: Graduation with a minimum of 40% in all subjects.
SMAT Eligibility Criteria
The duration of Bachelor of Sports Management (BSM) is three years, and Masters of Sports Management (MSM) is two years – these are in association with the University of Mumbai. The duration PGPSM and PGPSEM is 11 months which are offered at IISM, Mumbai. Candidates planning to appear for SMAT must make sure that they check the eligibility criteria. Application forms will be rejected if the eligibility is not met:
Eligibility criteria for admission through SMAT:
- Bachelor of Sports Management: Candidate must have completed Class 12 with a minimum aggregate of 40% or equivalent.
- Bachelor of Sports Science: Candidate must have scored 40% in Class 12 (Science) or equivalent.
- Master of Sports Management: Aspirants must have successfully completed his/ her graduation in any field with 40% or equivalent.
- Master of Sports Science: Graduation with a minimum aggregate of 40% in Life Science, MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BAMS, any allied paramedical fields, BPED and MPED degrees, or a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science.
- Post Graduate Program in Sports Management: Graduation in any field with 40% or equivalent
Eligibility criteria for admission through MAH-CET:
Post Graduate aspirants can apply with their MAH CET scores as well.
- Open category: Minimum required MAH CET percentile is 50.
- Reserved Category: Minimum required MAH CET percentile is 45.

SMAT Registration 2026
The candidate will first have to register on the official website of the International Institute of Sports Management to apply for SMAT. The candidate will have to find a link ‘Register Now’ on the website. On visiting the registration page, the candidate will have to enter the following details:
- Name
- Email address
- Phone number
- State
- City
- Course
On registering, the candidate will receive an email confirming SMAT egistration. Once the formalities are completed, the candidate will have to move to the next stage of the process and that is to fill in the application form.
Fill the SMAT application Form 2026
The candidate can then login and fill in the required details in the application form. Candidates are advised to check the eligibility criteria before applying. The candidate will have to upload the required documents on the SMAT application form. On filling in all the details, the candidate will have to pay the application fee. Once the formalities are done, the candidate will be provided an application number which will be used for future references.

Submit Essay/Caselet
Before appearing for the Sports Management Admission Test (SMAT), the candidate will receive a topic on their mail and will have to complete the essay/Caselet within two days. For Bachelor's, the candidate will have to submit an essay before appearing for the entrance exam, whereas students who have applied for Masters' or PGD courses, will have to give a Caselet exam, where they will have to attempt four topics which carry 20 marks each and submit the Caselet within two days.
Appear for SMAT 2026
After submitting the Essay/Caselet, the candidate will have to appear for SMAT 2026 from their homes from their Laptop/PC with their camera and microphone turned on. SMAT Result Stage 1
Candidates who clear the first stage, i.e after taking into consideration the Essay/Caselet and the performance in the Sports Management Admission Test (SMAT), candidates will be shortlisted and will be intimidated about the Personal Interview (PI) round.
Online Personal Interview Round
Shortlisted candidates will be intimidated about the online Personal Interview. In this round, candidates will face an interview panel. The interview will be conducted to judge the candidate's communication skills, sports knowledge, academics and career goal.
SMAT Result Stage 2
Candidates who clear Stage 1 and Stage 2 and secure 60 per cent marks, wil be selected for admission. Their offer letter will be generated, which they have to download from the instiute website.
