STEP 2: Shortlisting of Students
The applications are further shortlisted based on scores in the accepted exam. MEC Kochi cutoff list shall indicate the required minimum score for selection. Candidates with a score equal to or more than the cutoff become eligible for admission. The college accepts KEAM for BTech and GATE for MTech programmes.

Candidates need to pass Class 12 or equivalent pass with at least 50% aggregate in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Bio-technology/Computer Science/Biology taken together to apply for MEC Kochi BTech admission. Model Engineering College Thrikkakara Kochi conducts internal exams for each course as part of the internal assessment component of the academic evaluation. The internal assessment marks are based on assignments, quizzes, seminars, etc. The internal exams are usually conducted twice in a semester. The duration of each exam is one hour and the marks are 30. If a student fails in an internal exam, he or she will get zero marks for that exam and it will affect his or her internal assessment marks. The internal assessment marks are calculated by taking the average of the two internal exams and adding 10 marks for attendance and 10 marks for other components. The internal assessment marks carry a weightage of 50% in the final grade.
KEAM question papers can be downloaded from the official website cee.kerala.gov.in. In. KEAM is held in CBT mode with one paper that has three sections (Maths, Physics, Chemistry) for BTech candidates and two (Physics, Chemistry) for BPharm candidates. The KEAM 2026 entrance exam for engineering courses will consist of 150 questions, with Mathematics having 75 questions, Physics having 45 questions, and Chemistry having 30 questions. Candidates will have 180 minutes to complete the exam. For candidates appearing for KEAM 2026 BPharm ONLY, the entrance exam will have 45 questions in Physics and 30 questions in Chemistry, to be completed within 90 minutes. Each correct answer will fetch candidates four marks, while every incorrect answer will result in a deduction of one mark.
