National Institute of Design Ahmedabad Course Admissions 2025: Eligibility, Fees & Selection Criteria

BDes and MDes are the popular courses offered by NID Ahmedabad and the institute also offers PhD courses. BDes is offered in 8 specialisations and MDes is offered in 7 specialisations. 

NID Ahmedabad offers MDes in 7 specialisations to students which are Animation Film Design, Film & Video Communication, Graphic Design, Ceramic & Glass Design, Furniture & Interior Design, Product Design, and Textile Design. The duration of the course is for 2 years. Candidates need to clear the NID Entrance Exam. NID Ahmedabad eligibility and selection criteria for MDes course:

Selection criteria: DAT Prelims (30% weightage) + DAT Mains (70% weightage, including studio test-40% and interview-30%)

Eligibility: A pass in Bachelor's degree of a minimum of four-year duration in any stream or a full-time Diploma of four-year duration in Design, Fine Arts, Applied Arts and Architecture or three-year Bachelor's degree is required to apply for MDes course. Additionally, candidates must be born on or after July 1, 1992 (July 1, 1989 for SC/ ST).

There are 128  seats available for BDes at NID Ahmedabad. The seats are reserved discipline-wise as follows:

 The two-and-a-half-year Master of Design (MDes) programme at NID Ahmedabad is offered in five specialisations, i.e., Communication Design, Industrial Design, Interdisciplinary Design, IT Integrated and Textile, Apparel, Lifestyle & Accessory Design.

Industrial Design is offered in six disciplines: Ceramic & Glass Design, Furniture And Interior Design, Product Design, Toy & Game Design, Transportation & Automobile Design and Universal Design.

Communication Design is offered under four discipline: Film & Video Communication, Graphic Design, Animation Film Design, and Photography Design.

Interdisciplinary Design is offered under two discipline: Design for Retail Experience and Strategic Design Management.

IT Integrated Design is offered under four discipline: Digital Game Design, Interaction Design, Information Design, and New Media Design.

Apparel, Lifestyle & Accessory Design offers three discipline: Apparel, Lifestyle, and Textile Design.

The four-year Bachelor of Design (BDes) programme is offered in four specialisations, I.e., Communication Design, Foundation Programme, Industrial Design and Textile, Apparel, Lifestyle & Accessory Design. Communication Design has four disciplines: Film And Video Communication, Exhibition Design, Animation Film Design and Graphic Design.

No, the date of birth cannot be changed in the NID application correction window. The candidate will also not be able to edit their name, the programme applied for admission, registered email id, and phone number, in the application form. Note that these details are entered by the candidate at the time of registering for the NID DAT exam. Among the particulars that the candidate is allowed to edit in the NID DAT application form include the exam centre, address of communication, uploaded documents, category under which admission is sought, and any other details not covered in the paragraph above. The candidate needs to go through the list of items that can be edited and that can not be edited before filling out the NID DAT application form to avoid trouble afterwards. The application edit window for NID DAT will open within a few weeks of the closure of the application form.

The National Institute of Design announced the results of DAT Prelims for the B.Des program on April 1, 2025. 

The result was declared online at admissions.nid.edu.

2. Click on the result link

3. A log-in window will open

4. Enter your email ID and date of birth.

5. On log-in, you can download DAT Prelims results.

NID Ahmedabad admission to BDes and MDes is based on NID DAT scores. The final schedule for NID Ahmedabad cutoff has been released. Currently, the NID DAT exams are over. Students can visit the official website for updated information. 

The application edit window for NID DAT 2024 will open soon after the application form closes. Using the application edit window, the candidate will be able to edit details like their address, applied category, exam centre, etc. However, the candidate can't change the Programme Applied in, Name of the Candidate, Date of Birth, Registered Mobile Number, and Registered Email ID. Also, if the candidate changes their applied category, the applicable application fees have to be paid by the candidate. Further, no refund of fees will be made in case of any category change.  

Candidates seeking admission to BDes at UID Ahmedabad need to take the UID Design Aptitude Test. The authorities usually conduct the entrance examination in the month of January. Schedule of the entrance examination is published on the official website of the institute. The aspirants should stay updated with important event dates to avoid missing out on an important event.

Anticipated on the basis of last year trends, the minimum score required for NID Ahmedabad for BDes is 65.8 and for MDes, it must range between 80 and 90. 5 in NID DAT exam for the Open Category students. NID Ahmedabad admission to both BDes and MDes is offered through NIT DAT exam.

The design institute offers BDes at UG level and MDes at PG level across various specialisation in the field of Design. Candidates planning to take admission in NIDs must appear for NID DAT. NID application form 2026 opened on September 11, 2025. The application form is open online at the NID admission portal -admissions.nid.edu. Candidates who meet the program-specific eligibility criteria may apply before the last date.

The NID application form is for admission to the B. Des and M.Des courses offered by participating colleges. The last date to apply for NID DAT 2026 was December 01, 2025. 

NID Ahmedabad cutoff to BDes and MDes courses is based on NID DAT followed by counselling. The Open rank for BDes for NID Ahmedabad cutoff 2024 offered through NID DAT is estimated to be around 47, with a cutoff score of 65.8. For MDes, candidates must have around 80 - 95.4 score in NID DAT for NID Ahmedabad admission.

The aforementioned score and cutoff are anticipated on the basis of previous year trends for Open category students for a total seat of 144. 

While filling out the NID application form, candidates have to enter their personal, academic, and personal information. They are also required to upload a photograph and signature, and caste Certificate if applicable. In case of candidates seeking admission under reserved categories, they also need to upload a category Certificate. PwD category candidates will also have to upload the relevant Certificate.

The category and PwD certificates should be in PDF format and max 2 MB.

Meanwhile, the photograph and signature should in JPG/JPEG format and within 75-100 KB.
