For admission to the PhD course, NIT Calicut accepts the scores of entrance exams like GATE/CSIR NET/UGC NET/ JEST/NBHM/KSCSTE and the Written Test conducted by the institute. Candidates are shortlisted based on merit in these entrance exams and are further called for an interview round.

To apply for PhD admission at NIT Calicut, visit the official website of the institute and submit a duly filled application form online. The overall percentage recorded in 2025 was 72.98%.  A total of 1329 students participated in the NIT Calicut placement drive, and 970 were offered jobs.
