It is an excellent college and worth studying.
Placements: Around 94% of the students were placed from our course. The average salary package offered for freshers is 1.5 LPA. The highest salary package offered can be up to 4 LPA, and the lowest salary package offered is around 1 LPA. All interested students of our course got internships in various research laboratories, diagnostic companies, food and water industries and also in various biotech and pharmaceutical companies. Some of the top recruiting companies for our course include Medreich, Indoco, BCIL, Suraksha Diagnostic, Lal Pathlabs, various CSIR and DBT research institutes all over India, Biocon, etc. Top roles are mostly offered in the research and development wing of industries and PhD supervisor, principal investigator, quality control, clinical analysis, etc.
Infrastructure: There is a Wi-Fi facility for 24 hours on the campus and hostel. The labs and the libraries (both central and departmental) are open during college hours. Classrooms are well furnished, and smart classroom facilities are also available. Labs are equipped with various modern amenities. The quality of the food available in the college canteen and hostel is quite good with reasonable prices. Medical facilities are available 24 hours. The sports and games room has various kinds of indoor games and outdoor sports facilities. Different district and state-level tournaments are held throughout the year.
Faculty: All the teachers of our course have completed their post-doctorate. They are very well experienced, highly knowledgeable and have very good teaching quality. They are very helpful and friendly. They even clear our doubts after college hours or during the break. This course curriculum is very relevant for different industries. It is a growing platform now both in India and abroad.
Other: The campus crowd and events are very good and interesting here. Extracurricular activities are held from time to time to enlighten students. Scholarships are provided to needy students. I like this course very much as it prepares me for the medical industry field. Biotechnology has proven its importance, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic.

A wholesome experience of learning and growth.
Placements: Since our course is more academic-oriented, we are not offered with placements. Our course prepares us for the national and international qualifying examinations including NET and GRE. Most of my seniors and batchmates are in reputed national and international research institutes. 100% of the students get internships. I am not sure about the stipend.
Infrastructure: St. Xavier's Kolkata has state-of-the-art facilities for all departments, faculty members and students. Students of biotechnology have access to high-end laboratories equipped with international grade equipment including centrifuges, incubators, laminar airflow hoods, spectrophotometers, PCR machines, ELISA equipment, light microscopes and fluorescent microscopes, protein samples, antibody samples, reagents and more.
Faculty: All our faculty members taught us the subjects they specialised in. They were extremely helpful and always available after college hours. We had our own department library that gave us better scopes to understand the study material, with the help of our professors. Since biotechnology relies heavily on experimentation, observation and visualisation, almost all our faculty members relied on multimedia techniques and live demonstration to teach the relevant subjects. The curriculum conforms to the latest NET, GATE and DBT syllabi. It is a 5-year long programme neatly divided into 10 semesters. The 10th semester being a completely internship-based one that is the inspiration for our final Master's thesis.
Other: St. Xavier's College, Kolkata helps students to learn their subjects and the basic discipline of life. The stringent class hours, college decorum and even the dress code prepares the students for the next run. It has the power to transform the students into successful careerists and better human beings, thanks to the compulsory social work and participation in collaborated college activities.

Good helpful faculty, several events in college and overall good campus life
Placements: Most of the Students after completing the course go for pursuing PhD. A lot of students go to IITs for their internship. The Biotechnology department of the college host’s an International Symposium in which esteemed scientists from various branches of science are guest lecturers. Two of the guest lecturers from IITs, and one being from IIT Kharagpur had told how they eagerly wait for the students of St Xavier’s College biotechnology department to come to their lab’s for research internship and many of those students are then recruited by them.
Infrastructure: The college has free student wifi for which a student can register. All the classrooms are air conditioned and have proper seating arrangements with smart boards. The Biotechnology Lab has several advancement equipments and many students continue their final year research in the college’s lab. The library has books of all subjects and courses from various authors. It has 2 floors and is also air conditioned. Students can study therer for hours.
The hostel has good quality food in the mess. Medical facilities are available. It hosts several events including sports, games, dance, singing and a lot more.
Faculty: The thing I love the most about this college is how helpful the professors are. All the teachers are well qualified and have PhD or Post Doctorate in their subjects. They are knowledgeable and are always available for doubt clearing. If required by the student, they can also ask the teacher for tutoring sessions in the college itself.
The curriculum focuses both on theoretical and the practical part of the course. Students are also informed about Academic internships which can help them in their career.
The semester exams are standard level. Most of the papers are rather on the tougher side. The pass percentage is 40%.
Other: I chose this course because of my interest in the subject. The best thing about the course are the practical labs. The course is very tough.
St Xavier’s College Kolkata is famous for its events. There is an event almost every other week. Various societies host various events and many esteemed chief guests are also invited. There are many competitions as well in which the students can take part. There is also an astronomical observatory in the college. A student can also be a part of the countless societies in the college. Everyone here is very good and serious about their academics but at the same time also enjoy extracurricular activities and their college life. Students who are not serious about their studies and academics are rather looked down upon by their friends.

It is one of the oldest and prominent universities in Indian higher educational system.
Placements: About 43% of the students got placed from our course. The highest salary offered was Rs. 36,000 per month, and the lowest salary offered was Rs. 18,000 per month, which is very low. I think the top recruiter for our course was Michael Page India. The highest salary package offered in our course was 1.25 LPA, while the lowest salary package offered was Rs. 73,000 per annum. About 7% of the students from our course got internships in Michael Page India, Milind Technology, etc.
Infrastructure: The fee structure is reasonable here, and the fee is to be paid on a quarterly basis. For the biotechnology course, the fee is Rs. 4,000 per month, and the annual fee is Rs. 5,000. Moreover, we have to pay Rs. 200 before every examination as exam fees. Initially, we have to make a safety deposit of Rs. 1,0000, which is refundable. The fee will be increased slightly every 5 years. Hostel facilities are provided for both boys and girls, but hostel facilities are restricted to outstation students. Hostel rooms are clean and hygienic, and the prices are also quite low and affordable. The food served in the canteen is also quite safe and nutritious. The canteen provides breakfast, lunch and evening snacks to all students at a subsidised price. The food served is tasty and quite addictive.
Faculty: Faculty members here are very involved in their respective courses. They are extremely dedicated to their work related to the course. Courses were designed very scientifically to include every aspect of our professional careers. The syllabus is designed to enable most of the students to compete in national level exams such as national eligibility test (NET), GATE, DBT-NET, ICMR, etc. The course structure is very well established. There is a major focus on research, and many lab-based activities and educational tours are organised quite frequently. There are field excursions every year, which are extremely enjoyable. Our college regularly provides offers for internships and summer fellowship programs. Some of the professors take in apprentices to help with research work. It is a fascinating environment to learn about research works. Many students gain insights into research methodology, and a few of them even publish papers in the college research journal.
Other: I chose this course because I didn't have other options. The best thing about our course is that you don't have to put a lot of effort. I think the number of faculty members available in our course was less than the other courses offered during my tenure. St. Xavier's College celebrates many events such as Christmas, Easter, Saraswati puja, Republic Day, Independence Day, etc. Other than this, many events throughout the year are also organised, which include the annual fest named Xavotsav. It is a really well-appreciated event which involves dance, drama, song and various sports activities. The fest is completely organised by students, and every year famous musicians and music bands visit here to participate in it. Other than this, academic seminars, debate and quiz competitions and inter-college sports tournaments are organised throughout the year. There is a major focus on cultural activities. Our college provides scholarships to students who belong to the underprivileged background. Scholarships provide financial aid to all students who belong to families whose annual income is low.
