B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering - Batch of 2022
3.6
TKMCE: The College with Lots of Memorable Moments.
Placements: In chemical engineering, placements are comparatively very low; I think only 10/70 are placed. In CS, mechanical, and other branches, placements had very good results, with an average of 9 LPA. Core companies are comparatively low in our country, so we need to choose abroad for work.
Infrastructure: The architecture of our campus is very old; it looks like a mosque and looks great. The evening view of the campus is very nice. Our campus provides us with labs, classrooms, and Wi-Fi for study purposes. The canteen facilities are good. We have to pay first and then get the product, which is the canteen policy.
Faculty: Chemical engineering is a good course. It contains subjects like Instrumentation and Process Control, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Particle Technology, Safety-related subjects, Heat Transfers, and Mass Transfers, which give a whole idea to students. Semester examinations are a little tough, but if you study well, you should score good marks.

The faculties are very friendly and will guide you well.
Placements: TKM College of Engineering has the highest number of placements amongst KTU colleges, and the placements in previous seasons were very good. The highest package is 16 lpa, the lowest will be 3 lpa, and the average will be 6 lpa. Tata Elxsi is the common recruiter. This is the best college.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure at TKM College of Engineering in Kollam, Kerala includes hostels, a sports complex, labs, and more. TKM College of Engineering has hostels for around 2,000 students, including boys and girls. The hostels offer amenities like: 24-hour security Wi-Fi Recreational facilities like playgrounds, indoor and outdoor games, and gymnasiums Multipurpose rooms for yoga Computer facilities Reading rooms with books, magazines, and newspapers Emergency vehicle and driver available round the clock
Faculty: Faculty members who are experts in their domain of expertise are available to impart their knowledge and experience to the budding engineers at this alma mater. The teachers of this college are very well trained and knowledgeable in their respective subjects

Review of TKM College - Thangal Kunju Musaliar College of Engineering.
Placements: In chemical engineering, there were many placements opportunity available for students. Around 80% of chances were for IT companies. The most reputed leading IT companies were approach here for placing students. Also some core companies were visiting for selecting students in core section. The highest salary package offered was 16 LPA, and the average salary pacakge offered was 4.5 LPA. MRF, Plant Lipids, and JSW were the most recruiting chemical related companies. The internships opportunity were provided by this college through coursera site and also students can contact the respective industry and the department will do the rest for proceeding it.
Infrastructure: There were lot of facilities available for students. In the college, there were respective laboratories for each section. The classrooms were composed of digital projectors along with all electric facilities. There were two types of library, one was central one and the other was department library. The students can took text from both the library by using identity card and library card. There were many hostel for college management. Exactly the hostel atmosphere was more energetic than the college atmosphere. The hostels were like a heaven. Food and all other amenities were extra good with much valuable mess bill.
Faculty: Teachers were very much helpful for students. They will do their level best for teaching. Mostly teachers were post graduate and doctorate, also industrially experienced faculty members were available. This university and the college provide course outcome so by completing this course students can acquire the relevant curriculum. The semester exams were comparatively not difficult but proper and regular study on each subjects required.
Other: The best and foremost thing in chemical engineering was that they were the most inevitable part in chemical sector and also in each of the sector. I opted for this course due to my passion in this, so being a chemical engineer was the one of the best thing that needs to acquire. Some more industry aspect were additionally required during this duration of study. There were several kind of events held on our campus. Events, fests, etc., were usually done at the end of even semester. Different students chapters and their activities were also running here. The scholarship and other related things were under the control of office staff and they will do the necessary things.

Review of Thangal Kunju Musaliar College of Engineering.
Placements: The placements offered by core companies are low. You need to do post-graduation in this course to be more valued if you are looking for opportunities in core companies. One can easily get internships in any chemical company in Kerala as TKM is one of the reputed colleges in the state. FACT, TCC, HIL, and BPCL KMML are some of the industries where you get internship opportunities throughout your course of study. The placement opportunities for a chemical engineer within India would be meager. I would recommend looking for opportunities in foreign countries, especially in gulf countries in the petroleum and oil field. As far as I know, chemical engineering jobs are the highest paid ones.
Infrastructure: No free access is provided to Wi-Fi in the department. Well-equipped labs and departmental libraries are available. Spacious, bright and well-ventilated classrooms are available. The hostel rooms are congested, but the food is good, and the atmosphere for games and other activities is good. Each hostel has a gym to ensure you keep yourself physically fit. The college was established years ago, kindly do not expect modern infrastructure and the latest facilities in hostels.
Faculty: There are limited faculty members in our department. They are young, energetic and helpful. Some of them are freshers. So at times, you have to find other ways to help yourselves learn a topic and understand it. Every faculty in the department is approachable, and they give utmost importance to academics and related activities. For a chemical engineer to understand what exactly happens in an industry, I believe a yearly industrial visit would help. But I haven't experienced a decent industrial visit organised by my department yet, due to the pandemic and other reasons.
Other: I chose chemical engineering out of curiosity and interest in chemistry. But I would recommend you do some research on the course and its outcomes and other opportunities before you opt for it. TKM is not only about academics. The kind of exposure you receive is immeasurable. The techno-cultural fest is one of the best events which lasts for about 4 days. The film and drama club in the college organises a film fest in association with Kerala State Chalachithra Academy every year, which screens some of the finest movies from all over the world. There are a department fest and many other programs. The college, atmosphere and students help you grow both academically and personally.

The college lacks the free area. But it has better facilities.
Placements: The placements of this college are high compared to the other colleges of Kerala. All most every student who has no back papers got the job in the companies including TCS, Hero Ltd, Infosys, Mahindra. The college has a well-established placement cell. Since the university highly encourages the internship programme, the college faculty members help students with their contacts.
Infrastructure: The college has a library with digital support. There is a sports ground for cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, tennis, and badminton. The college has smart classrooms. Campus doctor is available here. Homely food is available in the canteen. The hostel rooms are better in this college. There are separate hostels for boys and girls.
Faculty: The teachers are well qualified, they have done their masters and post-graduation mainly in IITs and NITs. They have well experience in their subject and has in-depth knowledge in it. They continuously modify teaching methods. They maintain a better student to the teacher ratio. The college even has guest faculty members.
Other: The college has a lot of events including Conjura techfest, department wise techfests, Sukrtha-Palliative care, etc. More than 3000 students are studying in this college.

One f the best colleges for technical education in Kerala and supports the students.
Placements: They provide a great number of placement opportunities for most of the departments in the college. But most of them are software related companies. But, there are a good number of placements in the core fields for the branches like mechanical, electrical, etc. But unfortunately, not many on-campus placement options were provided for the chemical engineering students. They support the students for the placements and provide the orientation and the preparatory training for the interviews.
Infrastructure: They provide better infrastructure supporting both the curricular and the extracurricular activities. They have well-furnished and well-maintained classrooms with modern technologies. They provide well-equipped laboratories with proper safety measures. They have a wonderful auditorium and a large library with sufficient resources to support the students. They provide the leisure spaces, the parking lot, a canteen, a coffee corner, the drinking water and well-maintained toilets.
Faculty: This college provides the best faculty members who have years of experience in both the teaching and the research. All of them are well-qualified, dedicated and willing to support the students in their overall growth. The curriculum is based on the Kerala University and the Kerala Technical University which prepares the students to become the capable engineers in future.
Other: It's an NBA, and NAAC accredited college and one of the pioneer colleges in the field of technical education. It is the first-aided engineering college in the Kerala state which produces well-known personalities in the fields of teaching, technology, art, culture and administration.

A reputed college but disappointing due to there being no placements in fields other than IT sector.
Placements: If you are here for placement in your core sector, please do not repeat my mistake by joining this college. When I planned to join, everywhere I searched, I was given a feedback that this is one of the best colleges in Kerala to grab a placement, but unfortunately, it is not right except for computer science and to an extent, EC and EEE branches. No chemical company visited the college during the 2016 placement drive. 90% of companies which visited were from the IT sector - TCS, Accenture, Tech Mahindra, to name a few. Some big data companies like Mu Sigma also came along and to my knowledge, they offered the best salary package of 6 lakhs/annum. TCS offered 3.33 lakhs/annum and Accenture around 3.2 lakhs/annum. The roles offered were that of assistant engineers after a stipulated training period. Almost 70% of students who attended got placed but most did not join as almost all were IT-related.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is moderately good. The computer labs are up-to-date with modern technology but that of my own branch, the chemical labs, lack in modernization. The college brochure advocates about Wi-Fi connectivity for the entire campus, but it is password-protected and only available for faculty members. The classrooms are getting digitised and the process still ongoing. Medical facilities are arguably the best with the college having an own ambulance. Sports and games are encouraged with football being given a slight importance over others. Even then, there are cricket nets, basketball courts, indoor badminton courts, tennis courts, volleyball courts and other indoor games readily available. The canteen food is okay and not overpriced. If you get enrolled in college hostels, the rooms are tiled and clean. The mess serves good food and you do not have to worry about that aspect, rest assured.
Faculty: The faculty members in my department are knowledgeable and very helpful barring some. The only problem is that the older and qualified professors are reaching their retirement age and there is a gap between the younger ones and them. The teaching methods during my time include lectures with an without slide presentations and mostly taking lecture notes during class is your responsibility. With technological advancements, nowadays, the presentations are mailed to the students and there is no need to write notes in most classes. We had about 12-15 teachers for 300 odd students in our department. There is a compulsory industrial training to be attended as per the course curriculum and it will be arranged duly. Chemical engineering is a tough engineering branch and there is a lot to study, some of which are seemingly cumbersome and quite outdated. So be ready for a hectic 4 years if you plan to choose this branch.
Other: The campus is not very vast and is situated in a little under-developed area. The city, Kollam is not anywhere close to a developed city either. On the other side, life will be cheap and you won't need to spend so much money. Having said that, there are also good hotels and tourist places around like Varkala, Theni, Palaruvi Waterfalls, Munroe Island, Kollam and Thirumullavaram Beaches and awesome seafood availability.

The review of TKM college.
Placements: Core placements are less when compared to other branches of the college. But still BPCL, TTP, lipid plants came last year for placements. Among 64 students 5 people get placed in core companies and rest 52 people get placed in various companies that came to college. The highest salary offered by TTP was 70 k. We have to find our industry or whatever sector that we want to intern at. The department help us to get in contact with the company.
Infrastructure: First of all the college is accredited by NAAC. The college provides students with lab facilities, library, medical etc. The Wi-Fi facility is literally available. The hostels are outside the campus but still near to the college. The food provided in the canteen is healthy and tasty.
Faculty: Well-educated and experienced faculty members are available. Their experience helps us to make a good basement. Frequently help us to get an industrial application kind of study. The college adopts the courses under KTU. The college also provides many electives.
Other: At the month March-May diseases like dengue and Jaundice get spread in the local area, and many students easily get affected by the disease. Hospital, banks, railway station are present in the local area itself. The local people attitude is not good.
