LPU student Manish Motwani shares key placement stats for this year including top recruiters and highest & average salary packages offered. He also provides some key takeaways from the placement interviews this year.

I study in Lovely Professional University and referring to engineering stream alone, there are around 15000 students from different branches (Total 12 branches offered in engineering). Every year, around 95 per cent students among all the eligible candidates secure placements. Many companies from various domains visit campus for recruitment and few students move out of their core branch to secure the job opportunity.

The cutoff for academic performance in all the branches is standardized, i.e. 7.5 CGPA and rest depends on the interview rounds. The top companies that visited the campus include Adobe, Microsoft, Google, Cult Fit, Reliance, VMware, Cisco, IBM, Samsung, HDFC, DBS (Development Bank of Singapore) and Virgin Airlines. In total, around 200 companies came to the campus for placement drives.

The highest package offered for 2020 batch was 41.6 lakh for Computer Science and Engineering branch by Microsoft. The average branch wise package is mentioned in the table below:

Computer Science and Engineering (CSE)

8 LPA

4 LPA

3 LPA

7 LPA

The most important factor for successful placements is preparations and hard work. It is important to maintain a good CGPA throughout all the semesters, even though it is very difficult to maintain. A major challenge is to deal with various rounds of interviews and written tests. Sometimes, you need to travel to other cities for interviews and this can unnecessary pressure. It is often very difficult to juggle between the placements and preparation for semester examinations.

In the early interview rounds, questions related to the kind of a person you are and your area of interests were asked. In the initial rounds, it starts with an introduction and knowing the candidate. The recruiters also ask questions from the interests you mentioned in your resume and sometimes it is called the resume round. Make sure you know every detail about all the things mentioned in your resume apart from academic details. The placement interviews more about understanding your perspective about a current topic or subject rather than the current scenario.

The technical and final interview rounds are related to your core stream. Hence, your projects, subjects and practical knowledge will be the main focus throughout the discussion. There will be several questions around the practical applications of your knowledge and you need to provide on the spot solutions. In the HR round, the questions were based on morality, ethics, leadership and behaviour etiquette, etc. to analyse your character and whether you will fit into the organization’s culture.
