Someone said, ‘Preparation is key to success.’ However, before diving into preparation, it is always important to ensure that we meet the eligibility of whatever we are preparing for.

Placements plays a very important role in putting the career of any individual on the right track, irrespective of whether one is from Science, Commerce or Arts. But what factors are given weightage during placements?

Companies that visit the institute prescribe certain criteria for any candidates sitting in the campus drive. These usually vary from company to company. But most important is the marks/CGPA obtained until previous semesters in graduation. Most companies expect the appearing students to have a CGPA of six and above in graduation. However, some of the good MNCs demand seven CGPA or as high as eight CGPA too. For instance, in my college, in past three years, most of the companies have only asked for the six CGPA, but if you appear for the placement drive of Siemens or Bajaj then they ask for seven and above CGPA. If are sitting for placement drive of Samsung then for some of the higher posts, they ask for eight and above CGPA. In my college, National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Aurangabad, the minimum criteria for appearing in the placements is CGPA of six and above until the last semester in which the placements are organized. The placements are usually held in the 7th semester, but sometimes it is held in 8th semester too (for BTech students). For diploma students, it commences from 5th semester.

Most companies don’t give weight to the attendance, but the college doesn’t allow students to appear in the placements if the attendance is below 75 per cent. So they have to maintain their attendance in order to appear for placements. But if you appear in pool campus drives then there is no such criteria. Some companies take your 10th and 12th scores in consideration also. Few of them also stipulate age limit for candidates sitting for the drive — should not be below 21 years and not more than 25 years. Another important criterion for engineering candidates that companies often ask for before joining the company — one must have cleared all the backlogs or there are no backlogs throughout all the semesters

These are some of the most important criteria that one must take care of during the placements interviews or while appearing for the placement drives.
