
RRB Group D 2025: Railway Recruitment Boards have released the short notification for RRB Group D 2025 notification (09/2025). The detailed notification will be released on January 21. RRB Group D apply online link will be activated on January 21, 2026. The last date to fill the application form is February 20, 2026. A total of 22,000 vacancies were announced for the exam. RRB Group D exam is conducted to select candidates to various level 1 posts in Indian Railways. The selection process comprises CBT, Physical Efficiency Test, Document Verification & Medical Examination.
RRB Group D 2025 (08/2024): RRBs are conducting the CBT exam of RRB Group D for a total of 32,438 vacancies. The exam will conclude on February 10. The remaining phases of the exam will conducted on January 8, 9 and February 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9 and 10.

What is RRB Group D exam?
RRB Group D is a national-level exam conducted by the RRBs on behalf of the Railway Recruitment Cells (RRC). It is an excellent career opportunity after Class 10 who wish to join the Indian Railways. RRB Group D Eligibility 2025
The eligibility is calculated in terms of nationality, age, qualification, etc. Only those candidates are considered for the exam who fulfill RRB Group D eligibility. CCAA-certified candidates are eligible to apply for Railway Group D Recruitment.

The CCAAs (Course Completed Act Apprentice) trained in railway establishment are given due weightage of marks obtained in National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) for preparation of the final merit list. Such candidates are exempted from PET/PST. Railways will give one-third weightage to the NCVT marks in preparation of RRB Group D final merit list after the conduct of CBT. Earlier, CCAAs had to appear for PET and the final merit list was prepared based on the marks obtained in CBT and PET subject to qualifying the document verification.
The official notice reads, “20 per cent of reservation in RRB Group D exam is given to CCAAs. In line with the provision contained under section 22 of Apprentice Act, CCAAs trained in the railway establishments may be given due weightage for the same such that one-third of the mark in preparation of the final merit list after the conduct of CBT shall be based on the marks obtained in their NCVT exam. They shall, however, be eligible for empanelment only after document verification and qualifying the medical standards. Such candidates will be exempted from PET since they are already trained in railway establishment and have gone through rigor working in Railways and have proved themselves in meeting the physical standard required for performing their jobs."

RRB Group D selection process comprises CBT, PET/PST, document verification and medical exam. The transgender candidates are given relaxation in the PET. CCAAs trained in railway establishment are given due weightage of marks obtained in their NCVT exam in preparation of final merit list after the conduct of CBT. Based on the performance of candidates in CBT subject to their qualifying in PER, candidates are called for document verification as per their merit and options. In case of two or more candidates secure same marks, their merit position is determined by age criteria i.e., older person is placed at higher merit and in case age is same, then alphabetical order (A to Z) of the name is taken into account to break the tie. Appointment of selected candidates is subject to their passing requisite Medical Fitness Test conducted by the Railway Administration, final verification of educational and community certificates and verification of antecedents/character of the candidates. All candidates clearing the DV are called for medical exam. RRBs/RRCs only recommend names of the empanelled candidates and appointment is offered only by the respective Railway Administrations.
Empanelling of candidates in RRB Group D exam is done based on their performance in CBT, subject to their qualifying in PET. The appointment is offered to selected candidates provided they qualify the requisite medical fitness test and document verification. In case two or more candidates secure the same marks, their merit position is determined by the age criteria. The letter of appointment is issued by the Railway Administrations. Appointment of selected candidates is subject to their passing requisite Medical Fitness Test to be conducted by the Railway Administration, final verification of educational and community certificates and verification of antecedents/character of the candidates. It may also be noted that all candidates successful in DV are sent for Medical Examination. Clearing of such Medical Examination by additional candidates (those called for DV beyond the notified number of vacancies) will give such candidates no right to be considered for appointment. Candidates may note that RRBs/RRCs only recommend names of the empanelled candidates and appointment is offered only by the respective Railway Administrations.
After document verification in RRB Group D exam, candidates are called for a medical test. It is mandatory to clear the medical test to be considered for the recruitment exam. The medical fitness test is conducted by the railway administration to ensure that the candidates are medically fit to carry out the duties connected with the post. The near vision should be Sn/ 0.6, 0.6 without glasses and must pass tests for color vision, binocular vision, night vision, mesopic vision, etc. Distant vision should be 6 / 9, 6 / 9 with or without glasses (power of lenses should not exceed 2D).
Candidates selected through RRB Group D exam get in hand salary in the range of INR 25,000 to 27,000 as per the 7th pay commission. Besides getting the RRB Group D in hand salary, candidates are also entitled to various perks and allowances. The basic RRB Group D salary is INR 18,000. Once the RRB Group D CBT result is announced to select candidates for PET round. In this round, the fitness of candidates is evaluated by the board. Candidates qualifying the PET are called for document verification and medical exam. PET is qualifying in nature and it is mandatory to pass it. Candidates are called for document verification as per their merit. Post document verification, candidates are called for medical.
Percentile scores are scores based on the relative performance of all candidates who appear for the examination. The marks obtained are transformed into a scale ranging from 100 to 0 for each shift. The percentile score indicates the percentage of candidates that have scored equal to or below (same or lower raw scores) that particular percentile in that examination. Therefore, the topper (the highest score) of each shift get the same percentile of 100 which is desirable. In percentitle-based normalisation, the marks obtained between the highest and the lowest scores are also converted to appropriate percentiles. In case of two or more candidates secure same normalised percentile score, their merit position is determined by age criteria.

RRB Group D cut off is the minimum qualifying marks which candidates need to secure inorder to qualify the exam and become eligible for the next round of selection process. RRB Group D cut off is released in PDF form and comprises the category-wise cut off marks. There are no sectional cut off marks in the exam. The examination authority releases overall cut off marks for the exam. Candidates securing equal to or more than the cut off marks are selected for the exam. RRB Group D cut off marks are calculated out of 100 marks. There are various factors based on which the cut off marks are calculated. House Rent Allowance depends on city of posting. X category cities get 24 per cent (INR 4,320), Y category cities get 16 per cent (INR 2,880) and Z category cities get 8 per cent (INR 1,440) of basic pay. Additionally, Dearness Allowance of 34 per cent on basic pay is provided, which amounts to INR 6,120. Candidates are also entitled to a travel allowance based on posting location. The gross salary is around INR 27,920 in X cities, INR 27,000 in Y cities and INR 25,560 in Z cities.
The Maths section of RRB Group D exam is usually moderate. Questions in the exam are asked from Number System, Percentage, BODMAS, LCM-HCF, Simple and Compound Interest, Algebra, Profit and Loss, etc. The standard of the Maths syllabus is of high school level. Candidates should practice previous years' question papers inorder to ace the exam.
RRB Group D Probation period is 2 years. Candidates will have to take the training for a period of 2 years, and then will be able to start their job as an RRB Group D Officer.
