Philosophy of Geography

The course deals with the process of development of modern geographical thought and the evolution of the humanistic and radical perspective of geography.

Geomorphology and Geo-tectonics

It introduces learners to the principles of geomorphology, river hydraulics and formation of river basins, process of evolution of landforms and application of geomorphology in the assessment and management of disasters.

Soil and Biogeography

The course explains the importance of soil for the biosphere, the protection of plant ecology and zoogeography.

Economic Geography

It deals with the geographical distribution of agricultural fields, industries and services. It deals with the primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary sectors of the economy.

Climatology

Climatology is the study of weather and climate and the factors affecting the formation of winds, clouds, rainfall, air mass etc. It also discusses the causes behind climate change and methods to deal with it.

Hydrology and Oceanography

The study of water resources, their occurrence and their properties are termed as hydrology. The study of ocean-floor morphology is termed oceanography.

Population and Regional Development

The course deals with the contemporary trends in population growth of India as witnessed in migration, mobility and displacement. It also deals with the classical and neoclassical theories of regional development.

Social and Cultural Geography

It introduces the concept of social geography affected by fragmentation, segregation and polarisation. It also deals with the cultural patterns witnessed across the world.

Research Methodology: Concepts and Methods

An important course which deals with the formation of the research question, hypothesis, research design and methods of data collection.

Remote Sensing: Concepts and Methods

It deals with the process of geo-referencing with the help of GNSS data and image and map classification.

GIS: Concepts and Methods

The course introduces the application of a Geographical Information system to determine heights and contours in a geographical space.

Tropical Geomorphology

This course is a region-specific course with India being one of the major tropical nations of the world. It introduces learners to the geomorphic formations in India such as coasts, deltas, karsts and climatic changes affecting these landforms.

Advanced Survey: Concepts and Methods

The course introduces the application of Unmanned Aerial Systems, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, DGPS, Laser Scanning Surveys, Total Station Surveys and modern developments in surveying.

Dissertation

Candidates have to submit a project report/dissertation at the end of the course towards successful completion of the course. The dissertation shall reflect the research done in the area of field surveys.

Advanced Cartography

The art of drawing maps is called as cartography and this course deals with field astronomy, geodesy, spherical trigonometry, ground surveying and positioning as well as remote sensing and aerial photogrammetry.

Environmental Geography

The course deals with the impact of atmospheric changes on the biosphere and the changing relationship between man and the environment and the related issues.

Geography of Tourism

It explains the socio-economic importance of tourism, the effectiveness of tourist infrastructure and the ecological impact of tourism on the environment.

Geography of Health

The course explains the dualism existing between health and medical geography, the measurement of epidemiology, principles of disease ecology and forces affecting the health of a society. 

Regional Planning

The course deals with the principles of regional planning and identification. It also explains the problems of rural and urban development.

Urban Geography

Urban Geography is the study of the origin of cities, urban space, urban structure and issues of urban infrastructure.

Population and Welfare Geography

The course deals with the theories and models of population growth. It also deals with the reasons and effects of population explosion.

Coastal Management

Coastal Management is the study of the formation of coastal landforms, the conservation of coastal ecology and the impact of anthropogenic activities on coastal areas.

Agricultural Geography

It introduces learners to the economic and physical factors contributing to agricultural development and principles guiding land use survey and land classification.
