IIM Ahmedabad increases its PGP fee by 7.7 per cent
Fee hike at IIM Ahmedabad
IIM Ahmedabad has increased its Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management and PGP Food & Agribusiness Management (PGP-FABM) fees from Rs 19.5 lakh to Rs 21 lakh. The 7.7 percent hike in fee was approved by the board of governors of IIM Ahmedabad. The fee is inclusive of tuition, course material, accommodation, placement services, library, and IT resources.
The general inflation and the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission are the main reasons for the rise in the cost of the programme. According to a statement of the Press release, "The Institute is committed to striving for efficiency in its operations. As the most liberal among Indian management institutions by far in financial aid disbursements (in 2016-17, one-third of our students received financial aid), IIMA is also committed to ensuring that no capable candidate is denied entry for reason of lacking financial wherewithal".
Last year, the fee at IIM Ahmedabad was Rs 19.5lakh, and this year it has risen to Rs 21 lakh, which is an increase of 7.7%. IIM Ahmedabad has increased the fee back-to-back – last year too, the fee was hiked by 5.4%.
The new fees will be applicable for the 2017-19 PGP batch. The news of the rise in the programme fee was declared at the B-school's 52nd convocation. With a hike in the PGP programme of IIM-A, it is expected that soon the fee of other B-schools might also rise.
The officials of the business school also said that earlier the fee was increased in every two to three years. However, now, the fee is being increased on an annual basis. Nevertheless, it was also informed that IIM-A ensures that none of the deserving candidate misses out enrolment in the institute due to financial reasons – this is why one-third of IIM-A students received financial aid in 2016-17.
