Extracurricular activities make me productive and help me to focus on my studies, says Ambika Sur

I took 2 to 3 months to prepare for the test. The difficulty level of the test is medium. So, I prepared for it myself without any coaching as I felt coaching was not mandatory.

I had already decided to study science in my XI and XII before I came to know about the stream division concept. After my boards, I never had any second thought about choosing my stream apart from Science stream as I had already made up my mind. It was not that my parents forced me to choose this stream rather I had a keen interest in Science.

Even for my graduation, I pursued a BSc (Hons) in the field of agriculture, but I later realized that I was more suited to professional courses that led me to an MBA. I am really happy to be a management student. MBA is a very practical stream where we have to keep an eye on the current trends in the market, business policies of products, and budgets which never fail to excite me.

The scholarship facility and the placement opportunity is the foremost reason for me to choose Lovely Professional University again. My score in LPUNEST (qualifying and scholarship test of the university) helped me to get admission in the university with a category-I scholarship. Apart from academics and placement,  LPU is a major attraction due to its modern infrastructure, in campus safety, vibrant-diverse culture and lot more. For me, this university is a home away from home.

Presently, I am pursuing a Masters in Business Administration from the Lovely Professional University. The university conducts a test – LPUNEST which is mandatory to get admission and scholarship. There are several categories of scholarship which is awarded according to the test score. The test is conducted in two rounds – round 1 is an online test which comprises of MCQ questions from English, Aptitude and General Awareness. After qualifying the online test they allow you to sit for a personal interview which is the second round. In the personal interview also they have several sections like – skype interview with a couple of panellists individually and then a telephonic interview is conducted too.

The test syllabus for MBA comprises of Aptitude, English and General awareness so I took online guidance and consulted some friends having knowledge about it. All details were available on the university’s official website.

I was very sure about Lovely Professional University so I just prepared for the LPUNEST. After achieving category one scholarship which provides 50% relaxation in tuition fees I got admission here. LPU provides very good exposure and placement opportunities which are also the reasons to choose it.

LPU has a very vibrant infrastructure with various campus activities. They keep on organizing events every now and then involving every field from cultural to literary, sports to spirituality. Our department Mittal School of Business (MSOB) has several clubs sorted according to specializations (marketing, finance, human resource, operations etc). Students choose clubs according to their interest and participate in club activities like organizing events and workshops, participating in the events organized by other clubs. I am a co-coordinator of Chanakya club which is involved in strategy making.

LPU has a separate department DSW (department of student welfare) which is completely dedicated to extracurricular activities.

I am personally involved in Punjabi folk dance forms like Gidha and Luddi. Every evening after class I visit DSW for practice. Mostly we go out of the campus for performances and competitions. University itself takes care of the expenses and other official activities for big events.

Recently, I and my team performed at the National Youth Fest 2020 organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports along with the central government. It was a 10 days trip to Lucknow. Now we are preparing for Punjab State Youth Festival which is again an event organized by the state government.

Apart from these regular activities, three major events are organized in the university for all. They are Youth Vibe, One World and One India.

Life in LPU goes very fast. It is a complete cycle of Events, Fun and Exams.

I personally suggest students involve themselves with any form of extracurricular activities along with the studies.

Simultaneously, I have an interest in fashion and literary events as well. I have participated and won a fashion event organized by the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow. I have participated in other fashion events like an event at MMU Mullana also.

I believe in multitasking. So, I have several participation and merit certificates in the fields of dance, fashion and literature.

All these activities make me productive and help me to focus more on my studies. They also uplift my mood too.
