Students’ Speak: Parameters taken into account for assessment during PI

Recruiters do not expect you to know everything; in some cases, they intentionally ask questions which they know that you might not know. These are trick questions which show how honest you are.

Converting an interview is an art in itself! It does not matter whether you know about the work you are supposed to do, it does not even matter which stream you belong to, you can crack any interview if you have done your research and if you have a passion for that job/career path. From my personal experience, I want to share a few assessment parameters for PI.

  1. Dress for the Job: Your first impression comes from the way you are dressed up for the interview. It gives you confidence if you look your best. Be professional and dress accordingly. A well-groomed person is halfway through.
  2. Be aware of the Job responsibility and do your research: What you want to show is how much you are interested in the job and how passionate you are about joining the company or the college. To illustrate this, you need to do your research. Know about their business/ curriculum (in case of college), know what value addition you will make, know what they want/ need from your side. Try to understand their expectations from you with the help of your research.
  3. Understand the skills they need: You must know what they are trying to judge you on! It is effortless to understand that. If, for instance, they are trying to underestimate your previous work or your resume, this shows that they are trying to assess how you handle rejections or how you persuade someone who doesn’t like you. If they are not letting you finish your answer or interrupting you a lot, this shows that they are trying to understand how to handle pressure or what is your tipping point, whether you are short-tempered or not.
  4. Know your Resume: Be true to yourself when you are making your resume, know each and every point in detail, mention the points which align with the job role you are applying for, have a story attached to all your strengths and weaknesses. At any given time, you should not stumble upon any point in your resume; this gives a terrible impression to the recruiter.
  5. No is also an answer: Be okay with saying No! Recruiters do not expect you to know everything; in some cases, they intentionally ask questions which they know that you might not know. These are trick questions which show how honest you are or in a sales interview, it shows what you can cook on the spot and how close it is to reality. Be aware of what this job needs from you, what kind of person they want honest or spontaneous. No is also an answer, but do not opt for this answer too much.

In the end, the most important thing is confidence. Nothing can be done without it. Be confident, and All the best for all your interviews!!
