NExT Exam Deferred for at least Two Years: NMC Latest News, Dates, Syllabus, Pattern

NExT Step 1 exam has been deferred for at least next two to three years, NMC has confirmed. The exam was scheduled to be held in August 2025. Reportedly, a delegation of FAIMA met the chairman of NMC where it was confirmed NExt exam will not be implemented immediately. A mock test will be held for next one or two years to understand the feasablity of implementation of NExT exam. Feedback of students will also be considered before taking big step of implementing the exam. Candidates must note NMC will release the official brochure for the exam, comprising crucial dates and details related to the exam.

NExT exam is expected to be held twice a year, in May and November. Candidates will have to clear Step 1 and serve an internship to become eligible for Step 2. NMC NExT exam will be a single-window exit test for MBBS students to get a license and practice medicine in India. Exam will check both theoretical and practical knowledge of candidates. Once implemented, the NExT exam will replace NEET PG and FMGE exam, which is conducted for foreign medical graduates to get registration for medical practice in India. As per the draft guidelines, the objective of the National Exit Test is to bring uniformity in the summative evaluation across the country with reference to the minimum common standards of education and training of a medical graduate.
