Somaiya Vidyavihar University Hosts International Conference on Clinical Translation in Collaboration with SBAOI
The ICBTD 2025 conference was organised by the Somaiya Center for Integrated Science Education and Research and the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Somaiya Vidyavihar University where leading researchers, clinicians and industry experts explored advancements in biomaterial applications for healthcare.
Somaiya Vidyavihar University organized the International Conference on Clinical Translation of Biomaterial-based Therapeutics and Devices (ICBTD 2025). The event was endorsed by the Society for Biomaterials and Artificial Organs India (SBAOI), with support from the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Anusandhan National Research Foundation.
The conference, organized by the Somaiya Center for Integrated Science Education and Research and the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Somaiya Vidyavihar University, brought together prominent researchers, industry leaders, and clinicians to discuss advancements in biomaterial applications for healthcare.
Dr. Rohit Shrivastav started the sessions with a presentation on "Affordable Healthcare Technologies in India," followed by Dr. Harikrishnan Varma, who addressed the "Challenges in the Translation of Biomaterials to Clinical Applications." Dr. Francis B. Fernandez then delved into "Hard Tissue Reconstructions," while Dr. Kuthe shared insights on "Tissue Engineering Research in India: A Pasteur’s Quadrant Perspective. The session concluded with an engaging talk by orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Taral Nagda on "The Fourth Dimension of Pediatric Deformity Correction in Children".
Day 2 of the conference began with a talk by Senior INSA Scientist Dr Jayakrishnan on "Drug Delivery Across the Blood-Brain Barrier," followed by Prof. Ketul Popat, who wrapped up the discussions with his presentation on "Surface Modification Strategies to Enhance Hemocompatibility of Titanium-Based Implants." A major highlight of the day was the presentation of groundbreaking research by early-career researchers and students, showcasing innovations in biomaterials for drug delivery, regenerative medicine, and 3D bio-printing applications.
