Both BS and BSc are known as Bachelor of Science. They are undergraduate courses offered at various degree colleges and engineering institutions. Bachelor of Science is the second most preferred course among students in India. The first preference is the Bachelor of  Arts, commonly known as BA, with the highest number of admissions. Engineering and Medical are the third options when it comes to choosing a degree course after class 12. The duration of the BS and BSc programmes is three or four years. There are many subjects offered under the Science specialization and these courses may vary from college to college.

Students can get admission to BS and BSc after passing the Class 12 exam in the science stream. In India, admission to the BS and BSc programs is through merit or an entrance test.

What is BS?

Bachelor of Science (BS) is four year UG degree. BS is the integration of theory, research and real-world application. This degree is mainly offered in computer science, mathematics, life science, or engineering.

What is BSc?

BSc degree full form is Bachelor of Science. It is three year undergraduate degree. A B.Sc provides in-depth theory knowledge, structure curriculum. This degree is offered in a particular discipline such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Economics or Computer Science. A BSc lacks a research or project component as compared to a BS degree.

BS Vs BSc: Admission Criteria

Admission to BS or BSc (Hons.) is offered to the eligible students. The eligibility criteria for admission to BS / BSc course will vary for each institution. The common admission criteria for BS & BSc are

  • Passed 10+2 or equivalent from a recognised board.
  • Secured a minimum 60% in the Science stream.
  • Appeared entrance exam like CUET, JEE Advanced or institute level exam like IISER Aptitude Test (IAT).

BS Vs BSc: Admission Process

The admission to BS and BSc is based on the entrance test or Class 12 score. Admission to a degree college is based on CUET, and JEE is considered for engineering colleges. IISER conducts IAT for admission to BS-Ms and Bs. Interested students must fulfil the eligibility criteria of the entrance exam and the university they are applying to.

CUET

Common University Entrance Test is conducted for admission to the UG programmes offered at central, state, deemed, private and other government institutions. The National Testing Agency conducts the CUET once a year. The test is conducted as computer based test across the nation. Students who qualify in the CUET UG exam need to participate in the counselling process for admission.

JEE Advanced

There are a few IITs that offer BS and BSc courses. Admission at IITs is based on JEE Advanced. Students need to qualify the JEE Main exam and be among the top 2,50,000 students to be eligible for JEE Advanced. Also, a few online courses at IITs has its own qualifier exam.

IISER 

There are seven IISER campuses. At IISER, BS-MS, BS, and B.Tech courses are offered. To get admission, students have to appear for the IISER Aptitude Test, which is conducted by a IISER institutes in rotation basis. This is a computer-based test conducted once a year. The rank holders are offered admission based on IAT rank and availability of seats.
